WOW, another article from our well-educated press filled with inaccuracies and sensationalism. Let's see if I can pick apart a few of the statements.

"On her flying test for promotion she came away with one of the highest scores possible. At 22 she became a captain."

Since when do pilots get "scored" on flying tests? By the way, there is no such thing as a 22 year old captain in the U.S.

"she pulled the nose down...the captain noted her speed -- 500 mph, too fast for this late in the process."

Everyone here knows that you don't "pull" the nose down, you push it. I can see why the captain was worried, he was about to get violated for going 500 mph below 10,000 feet.

"Early in her career, Nicole said, some black pilots told her they were being held back from promotions because of their race. She didn't want to hear it."

This is ludricous! Pilots are promoted by seniority and seniority only! What B.S....

"At Great Lakes, she flew extra hours and worked through vacations so she could move up to a Boeing 737."

I don't think working yourself to death earns anyone the right to move up to bigger airplanes. We all know why she go hired.

Do you really think she was hired at Southwest because of her qualifications? I don't.

That article leads me to believe she was doing 500mph late in the approach......woah, that is way too fast! Unless the author got his numbers wrong!

This article leaves me a little lukewarm.

No one has been able to confirm her abilities, yet because her father is a captain, and also because she's a black woman, then it means that she's got a free ride into the airlines.

I would say that yes, the above has to be factors in this, and it would be silly not to think so. But I won't go as far as to say that she herself is not worthy to be flying for Southwest at all.

There are standards, afterall, and if you are an unsafe pilot, you're liable to be fired just as much as anyone else.

Though Ramper@IAH, there are instances where people can be held back from promotion. Senority only gets you there, you still have to pass the checks.

That 500 mph (knots?) figure has to be false. There is no airspeed indicator in the cockpit that would ever register 500 of anything. Those airspeeds are not attainable except in a dive at lower altitudes producing aerodynamic forces which could destroy the airplane.
