all down to performance issues at LHR with the heat, they proabably don't what to load her right up ....and then run out of runway!

Always an option, clearly today being the hottest at LHR since records began, and with all flights now being completely full, has forced the issue.
Better that than off load some pax.
Sure we had a hot summer in 1976, we were not flying Concorde to JFK then, and a few days in 1990, again flights would not be certain to be completely full, though this week seems to have topped those years, it certainly feels that way-I've taken 3 showers so far and I've not even been doing that much!

So, how hot were it at LHR today? I hope you weren't working too hard GDB  Laugh out loud

I mean, if the exhaust heat from APU's etc wasn't enough, I don't want to guess how hot it can get down on the tarmac.

Temperatures hit 35.9 degrees today in the UK, pretty bad! I can only sympathise with those who have to work in hot, tropical countries. I saw some baggage loaders at SIN recently - that looked like fun work  Big grin

GDB--it certainly feels that way-I've taken 3 showers so far and I've not even been doing that much!

On CBC supper-hour news last night they had a short clip talking with a few people riding the Tube (in 34C ambient temperatures). Couldn't've been a pleasant experience at all, judging by the folks' comments.

Even Newfoundland --which almost never gets hot weather-- CBC was reporting last week that some places were having their first-even 30C (~86F) degree temperatures.

In any event hopefully today's the last day of this heat -- including for the sake of Concorde's routing. Though local YQX aficionados will be pleased, of course. Actually the airport was just celebrating their annual "Festival of Flight" last week, http://www.gandercanada.com/tour/t_flight.htm, so this visit will be a great follow-up .

No, I was off shift!
But yes, imagine being on acres on concrete, as well as all the other heat sources in that line of work.
Not nice.

GoAround I am sorry for you guys in London with that kinda heat. I live in Grenada 12degress North of the equator.. but it only gets to 30-32C here and 32 is extremly hot. i have never felt anything hotter than that. I work on the ramp at times.. and it is a real furnace at 32.

For a change, I drove from Manchester area to London this afternoon.

The journey took me over five and a half hours, compared with the 'normal' three and a half. Temperature ranged from 32°C to no less than 38°C as I turned off the M25 near Heathrow, and that was around 1715!

Here at Hampton Court it was 37°C whan I arrived!

This is nothing compared to what we get in different parts of the United States. Where I live in the central US it can regularly get up to above 40 degrees and in the winter it can go below -25 degrees centtigrade not factoring in the wind chill. You really learn how to adapt when in a matter of 6 months, the temperature can vary from a range of 60 degrees.

sorry guys, MRS recorded 41.8 yesterday and about the same today. Besides that we also have a lot of fires going on in the region. I can tell you the 24 Canadairs are used to the limit. Bless those guys.... Anyway, I can't believe the tarmac is still solid..
