AA CR7's

Sat Aug 09, 2003 1:28 pm

Two simple questions...1) Do AA CR7's use jetways at DFW and HOU?
and
2) Do they have the plane side baggage valet service?

B.T.W. if anyone has flown on an AA CR7 let me know how it is..Thanks

I'd imagine they use jetways, I know they do here at Cleveland.

Bpat --

The jetbridges are used at DFW, although I cannot be 100% sure about HOU. I can find out for you tomorrow (Sat) and I'll post here to you.

The CR7 is a nice plane overall. The only thing that *might* be improved is the seat width. The seat config is 2x2 seating, so the only way to increase seat width would be to change it to 1x2 seating. That would entail removing about 15-18 seats, and I don't see any CR7 operator doing that. So, make sure you like your seatmate, as you'll rub shoulders a bit.

Other than that, the ride is smooth. Cabin has decent headroom for a 71" tall person. The engines & APU are located aft, so it's a quiet ride. I'm sure that you get higher noise during take off & landing while sitting in the very back, but the engines used are very quiet, so any engine noise is relatively liveable.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

American Eagle had the planeside Valet Baggage service on *ALL* their flights, so no worries about finding that roller bag that is a big to wide to go on board.

The CR7 is quite the improvement from the days when the J-31/J-32 aircraft were the norm for regionals!  Smile

1) Yes - at DFW at least

2) Yes

The only thing that *might* be improved is the seat width.

Interesting you say that as AA's 738s, 757s, 767s, & F100s have less seat width than AE's CR7s.

I don't know about the jetway usage as I've not been to DFW or HOU with Eagle.
While I personally prefer the ERJ, the CR7 is an excellent aircraft and very comfortable. My first Experience was with America West who have a couple of rows of first class seats in the CR7 which is kinda cool. I don't think Am Eagle had 1st but none the less it's more than comfortable and despite what some will tell you the 17 1/2 inch seat width and 31 inch pitch is much the same as far larger aircraft.
I remember when the DC-3 was new!

Yes, they use jetways at HOU, I saw one connected to a jetway as I was leaving on FL.

I've taken the CR7 regularly from HOU to DFW and on ASA when they ran (and still might) from IAH to ATL.

I think most the shorcomings of the CRJ200 have been addressed. I found the CR7 to be relatively comfortable for a regional jet and the repositioning of the windows actually makes quite a difference in the perception of more space (and, of course you don't need to bend your neck at a weird angle to look out the window).

To further the comments above....AA's CR7's have incrementally more seat width than all of NW's planes..with the exception of the new 330. And yes, I mean the 319/320's as well. It's the aisle that's a bit cramped...not necessarily the seats (the aisle is only 16" wide as opposed to most Boeing's at 20").

For short hops is a nice little plane.

Oh..and ASA and AA both have the 'carry on' valet as you board. It works well..and is a nice touch (and yes, I understand it's not designed for the customer as much as the airline....)

How are AA's facilities at HOU? I was there about 2 yrs ago and the place was a little old and cluttered..I remember reading that there was a new concourse at HOU..Does AA operate out of it or is that for WN only?

AA is still in the old 'crummy' part.
Sorry.

yes they use the jetbridge at both DFW and HOU. Their facilities look dirty but cluttered now cause of the security checkpoint too. i rode on it and I liked it with the windows and the seats too. They have the carry-on valet and they just have the bags on the jetbridge when you leave off the plane. That concourse may be only for WN only but the only ones who use that Concourse that AA's at is themself and DL.
