Qantas Boeing 747 300

Sat Aug 09, 2003 9:25 pm

I herd that Qantas has use 747 300 on the LAX-SYD route. Did Qantas have custom made 747 300 to fly this route. I always herd that 300 had a shorter range than other 747's with the exception of the 100. If somebody have any information on the Qantas 747 300 on these long non stop flight to LAX please tell me thank you.

Qantas had 6 747-338s. First delivered to QF in late 1984, these RR-powered 743s have been to LAX. I worked at the airport for about a decade, and I've seen all of QF's 747 series there, including some 767s too. Whether the 743s made it to LAX non-stop from Sydney, I don't know. As far as I know, the 6 743s are still in service with QF. I'm sure someone here will enlighten us. Regards.

The 743's do not have the legs to do SYD-LAX non-stop, the only aircraft capable of it before the 744 came out was the 74L (SP), now retired and coming to a soft-drink fridge near you containing Coke.  Sad

Woudl probably have been via either HNL, AKL or NAN if a 743 was at LAX>
