Ryan International Airlines

Mon Aug 11, 2003 9:55 am

Can someone provide me with info about Ryan International. Their website has been down for about a week now. I would like to know the number of aircraft they operate, routes they fly and where?

Thanx

Ryan International is a contract carrier that operates other companies' aircraft on their certificate. They have both cargo (B-727) and passenger (A-320, B-727, B-737, B-757 and DC-10...although the -10s may be gone by now. If not, they are supposed to be going soon) operations. The number of aircraft and routes flown is constantly changing as the contracts come and go. They do a great deal of seasonal flying in the winter season for various tour operators such as Apple and TransGlobal Vacations.

I don't know how often the website is updated, since it contains a lot of old information, such as several contracts that are LONG gone (U S Postal Service, Sport Hawk, etc.) or how well it is maintained, but it worked for me when I just tried it. Here is a link:

They also fly to Los Angelos and Las Vegas from Atlanta for AirTran.

But as soon as AirTran get there 737's Ryan International won't be flying for AirTran any longer. And I can't wait for AirTran to get their 737's because there going to look great.

I used to be a Flight Attendant for Ryan Int'l.. here's info for you.

Ryan International Airlines is a privately own CHARTER airline, owned by Ron and Renee Ryan, based at Wichita... They do not have a "Hub-and-spoke" operation like most airlines. They get contracted to fly in certain cities TO certain cities.. I was based at DTW, and flew for Apple and Funjet vacations to Mexico and the Caribbean.. They have licenses for DC-10, 727, 737, 757, A319, A320, A321. The -10's are to be out of service VERY soon. They only own MAYBE 2 or 3 aircraft, most of theirs are leased from various airlines, liek Aer Lingus, Aero Llyod, JMC, Futura, just to name a few.

Ryan operates a charter program out of San Bernedino, CA for sports teams and other celebrities, musicians, etc. Also does NASCAR charters from one of the Carolinas. Ryan operates A320s for Airtran out of ATL 2x daily to LAS and LAX.

Their website is very poorly updated and run, the only area that ever gets any work is the employment area. Most of their employees are seasonal, as that is how most contracts are.

As a Flight Attendant for Ryan, I can say I'd be scared to fly on their planes. The staff is almost on a bribe basis, you can make or break yourself or someone else if you hit it right with certain people. There aer never lay-overs, unless there is a mechanical difficulty. But the countries you can go to with Ryan (depending on the bases) give you great opportunities for plane-picture taking  Smile

Ryan does a lot of operations with older 737's out of EWR on the eastern seaboard for old people to gamble.. Used to do a lot out of DEN, before the base was close, ORD the same.. Other bases were/are MSP, DTW, FNT, MKE, and more..

Here are a few pics of the planes I worked on.. (and flew on as pax on Ryan)

G-BXKC, A320 from JMC, (leased to Ryan) flew for Apple Vacations.. (this was my favorite plane to work)

G-BXKA, A320 from JMC (Leased to Ryan) flew for Apple Vacations.. Not nearly as nice on the inside as her sister ship G-BXKC..(Outside either, for that matter)

D-ALAB, A320 from Aero Lloyd (leased to Ryan) flew for Funjet Vacations from FNT.. I flew this as crew once and pax once, to propose to my g/f in flight (as an off-duty but working "Crew"  Smile)

D-ALAO, A321 from Aero Lloyd (leased to Ryan), operated for Funjet Vacations. I was proud to serve on this jet, as she was Ryan's FIRST A321 in service  Smile

EI-BXI, 737-400 from Aer Lingus (leased to Ryan) this flew for Apple Vacations, and this was the plane I did my first flight on.. Not in good interior condition tho..

I flew regularly to Cancun, Punta Cana, St. Martin, St. Lucia, Montego Bay, Aruba (only once), Cozumel (on our last flight there, we got to run the CZM firefighters obstacle course.. had fun too  Smile), Acapulco, and Puerto Vallerta.. (I think that's all).. I also did a "partial work" flight TO Las Vegas, to propose to my girl in flight  Smile..

I may be able to get you some interior pics if you want..

If you have any questions, feel free to ask here or email me..

I may as well add some info about the Airtran getting 737's affecting Ryan..

Ryan is not doing well with the AirTran contract. There are a lot of issues including a LOT of maintenance issues going on that is not making AirTran very happy at all. Also, on one substitution, a "normally" configured A320, (confg'd the AirTran way, bus. and coach) was substituted with a fully seated CHARTER config plane.. Cattle class indeed. Pax AND AirTran were not happy about that. A lot of the Ryan staff down there are getting really unhappy, as they are now being told that unless HR decides to transfer them to another base, they are stuck there unless they quit. (At the end of the last season, when I was laid off, a lot of ppl from the various bases transferred to ATL for Airtran. Some wnat to go back to their original bases, if/when they open up, and are being told screw you..).. Morale down there is absolutely crap..

Anyway..

Generally, that's any subsitution. There are two aircraft in full AirTran livery and configuration, 381 and 391. Both aircraft are used all day, every day (except Tues and Wed when only one LAS flight is operated). Anytime one of those two aircraft is out, the "Albino-spare" a.k.a Casper or Ghost Bird or 951 is used. It happens more than you would imagine as, in my opinion, the airplanes are garbage. Generally, the passengers aren't too unhappy about it as we compensate them nicely for the change. Most of the time, all they want is the drinks...and they still get those.
