New Flights Launched Between NCL And Durban,SA!

Mon Aug 11, 2003 8:39 pm

Av8air will launch direct flights between NCL and Durban next summer. Flights will operate using a based 278 seat Boeing 767-300ER a.c. The 763 a/c will also operate flights from NCL to Tenerife, Malaga, Arrecife and Alicante.

Great news for NCL, and maybe I might pop down to S.Africa next year  Big grin

Good news for NCL, I understand MAN services are also to be launched.

Wouldn't mind a few SA stints myself to mix with those 757 Canary charter flights... how much will Av8air pay a 763 First Officer I wonder....?  Laugh out loud

So...it looks like this airline will be catering for "Northern Britain" as they're meant to be basing at least 1 757 at MAN for Euro-destinations and a 767 for Durban and Cape Town (and somewhere else?).

Yeah, there supposed to be launching another long haul flight from NCL also.
Just wondering whether the 763 can do NCL-Durban nonstop? Rick, you may know?  Laugh out loud
Meanwhile at NCL, groundstar staff look set to be going on strike, as they get paid less than what groundstar staff at other UK airports get.

"Just wondering whether the 763 can do NCL-Durban nonstop?"

At 5,400nm great circle, not likely  Big grin

With a low-ish PAX load and favourable winds, they might just squeeze it. Not sure that the NCL runway could take a 763 @ MTOW, will check. Probably a PLTOW (Performance Limited TOW) of around 170t..

Would be surprised if there was not a tech stop involved.

Maybe a stop in TFS or somewhere on the way down and back up again then?

How about NCL-MAN-DUR...they were advertising non-stop from MAN.

MAN-DUR might be do-able simply because of the longer runway so no payload / fuel restrictions.

TFS would be well out of the way for a tech stop (adds about 700nm to thr trip). Great circle track UK to DUR heads over Tunisia.

DUB CPT will be operated with a tech stop southbound at TFS, northbound direct this winter using a 763ER
You are 100 times more likely to catch a cold on a flight than an average person!

MAN-TFS-DUR seems an illogical routing (some 800nm further than say MAN-MIR-DUR).

Unless they've got themselves a fantastically cheap handling contract @ TFS, I find it hard to justify such a strange routing. This will add 2 hours to the flight.

Perhaps they plan to combine TFS & DUR passengers on a single flight?

Otherwise it's the equivalent of doing SFO-LON via MCO!  Nuts

The flights will operate via Manchester to pick up more passengers before continuing to DUR.
