Aha, I see they are going back to the roots with their ex-Interflug A310's? Besides the fact that IF only had the flag around the nose....

Even though the whole aircraft could be more colourful and stylish in my opinion, I think it is a good move to display the name of the country rather than the one of the airforce ("Luftwaffe").

Cheers,

Tom

Understated, but smart.

My favourite at the moment is the Chilean AF VIP BBJ.

Not quite the first thread with pictures of the new paintscheme, but nice nevertheless.  Smile

Truly nicer than the old one...

So, will all A310 be repainted???

The German economy currently is not robust. Of course, neither are the economies of other NATO countries, as well as many Asian countries. Therefore, at this time, conservative liveries probably are appropriate political and economic reality. However, as a suggestion, the three colors of the German flag painted on the external services of the winglets might have been an inexpensive way to increase national identity.

DoorsToManual, what chilean AF BBJ are you refering to?
They only operate B735 and B733 IIRC.

Or did I miss something?

Hi Mario

My memory must have failed me this time - I do seem to remember a 737 (maybe not a BBJ then...) in what I think was Chilean AF colours...a sort of dark blue/light blue combination - reminded me of the Nivea cream "livery" (!) - quite nice

This livery shows that Germans and Germany is still not able to leave it's past behind it and show more pride for our country. Basically what the livery tells me is:Sorry that I am German, and I did not really want to show but that small dot on the tail... that is our flag.
But at least it now says Deutschland rather than Luftwaffe. Maybe just another 30 or 40 years and the livery will finally be a "proud German one".

No matter how I like or dislike the livery I do hope to finally see it when I get to CGN or TXL again.

i cant help bitching about recent paintjobs...

i think this one looks very unbalanced, undesigned, dilettante...

see, tags are placed here and there, in different shades, all and above in serif letters (times new roman style). what you learn in graphics design 100.1 is: use sans-serif for larger scale writings. serif looks shitty. and so it does.

the small black red yellow band is far to predominant and looks bon bon like.

the old gray paintscheme had much more grace in my eyes. this one looks like a wanna be hot-rod with several rallye stipes and decals.

JUKK!

and: i have to agree with godbless.

Hi again (interesting subject + free time = too many posts....)

About the German flag being too small. Well, I'm not German, and have never lived in Germany so I can't comment on any identity crisis you guys think you may have, but I for one say you have every right to feel proud of your country. You should not feel "guilty" for crimes you haven't committed - that is simply stupid. Yes, understand the gravity of your country's recent past, and be aware of it - but hide behind a curtain in shame for the rest of your lives?...of course not; at least I'm not expecting it.

ANYWAY...again, this German flag, and its size...perhaps you know better than I do about these things, but I don't associate the size of the flag with any sort of embarrassment...many carriers have small flags as part of their livery...immediately Aerolineas Argentinas comes to mind, the old Cathay Pacific livery (small British flag on the tail)...even Pan Am.

Anyway, even if you disagree, I quite like the flag being small...it looks small, but oozes sophisitication...a large flag would look too cheap and boastful, imo. For examples of cheap and boastful use of national flags, use your imagination...there are plenty of examples!

Rabenschlag,

As much as I know only the planes used for the Bundeswehr (the MRT to be updated to MRTT) are painted in the grey livery and thus will also stay that way and the ones left in the white livery will probably also yet be painted grey. I think only two planes (the VIP A310's) will get this new "livery".

DoorsToManual,

What you said is exactly what the problem is. It is the Germans who have a problem with leaving the past behind us and not the other Nations.
But what do you expect if children don't even learn the national anthem in school nor does anybody teach them respect for the flag.
A few years back I was in Denmark on an European boyscouts camp and the Swedish delegation had made a fence around their area made of little Swedish flags and it was only Germans that would walk past and rip them off. All children from all other nations had respect for their flag[-fence] but not the Germans. So this is just a German problem going first against their own and than also against other nations [flag].
Wow, should have written this in the non-aviation forum.  Wink/being sarcastic
