What's the reason behind the outbound stops? I can see the I/B's stopping for customs(?)
Direct KNOBS, maintain 2700' until established on the localizer, cleared ILS runway 26 left approach.

Either that or for pax whom would have connected into DTW going on to overseas. I am not sure. It is a MADHOUSE trying to even get to the airport in DTW. The traffic is backed up onto the highways. But it very well may be due to catering as we are just now getting power to certain areas near the airport/

According to www.nwa.com, the four B744s inbound to MSP (from DTW) are all scheduled to go to the Humphrey terminal for anywhere from 20-60 minutes on the ground. I'll be quite the sight to see the NWA B744s at the small HHH terminal!

Thanks for the post, really interesting. I assume that due to the huge blackout, NW's flight kitchens are not yet fully operational and/or they had to be totally restocked due to spoilage. An interesting side-bar to a complex story.

NWA flight 9949 from AMS is also being diverted to MSP from DTW. This is one of the NWA A330 test flight for employees. Will be arriving at around 5:20pm!

Very cool to see the four B744s and the A333 at MSP. Looks like the A333 just departed from MSP to go back to AMS just avoiding DTW altogether. The B744s got catered and fueled at the Humphrey Terminal. It looked like they were waiting on something else after the catering and fueling were done but I couldn't see anything. Anyone know what else these aircraft would need? They actually extended the jetways at the terminal although pax didn't get off (for obvious reasons).

What would be the sense of diverting a DTW-CDG flight to MEM, that is way out of the way, why not BOS or IAD?

prolly because MEM is a NWA hub and they want to be able to get passengers on other NWA flights quickly??

Just a guess. is it reasonable??

NWA #9949 did not have any passengers (employees) on it due to the power outage here in DTW---it flew out with crew only last night---

One reason for the odd routings may also be that NWA did not have enough crews available without exceeding their maximum allowed work hours.

Did NWA switch crews on their long-haul Japan flights when they went through MSP? It must be an operations nightmare trying to get aircraft and crew to meet in the right spot and the right time.

Considering all the chaos, FA's might have been hard to find to "legally" do a Pacific trip. A three day Pacific is worth 24+ hours, 5 day is 31, 6 day 36 etc.... It is very easy to find Deadhead work(DW) crew members returning to MSP or even DTW FA to do a DTW MSP DTW(DW) flight. A DTW MSP DTW one day will burn up less than 6 hours for a FA for the month. Wouldn't be surprised as NW has furloughed too many of our FA's and when the crap hits the fan like this or weather etc...the company is left to mix and match anyone they can get from other bases to cover trips.
