Why dis he include a mechanical delay in his rating of EWR as an airport?

That list is totally BS! JFK, EWR, MIA, LAX, BOS are all very respectable airports. This guy just has a terrible opinion on Airports that are currently in the middle of making improvements (BOS, EWR.) I never encountered a problem at MIA or LAX. I have never been to SJC, but I hear it is not terrible. LGA would be the only one I would agree with.

For layovers DFW is not the greatest. Unless it is a long layover, you can be in a big problem if you have to switch terminals to get to another flight quickly. The terminal layout is not the greatest design in todays hub and spoke system.

MSN reruns the airport articles (which is best, avoid, etc..) about once every two weeks.

"That list is totally BS!" - absolutely. The article appeared at least three times during less than a year without any changes. What's really interesting - who the hell assigned the guy to be "an expert"...

Most of the time, the guy doesnt know what the hell hes talking about. In his column about 'SHHH. the 5 best alternate airports' he includes reagan national. Well gosh gollly gee i forgot all about the airport closest to DC with the nicest architecture and frequent flights on most domestic carriers. Coming next week: 1 columnist to avoid!

Yeah, I saw the "Airports to Avoid" article yesterday - what a load. His old "Crabby Traveler" column (I think it used to be on ABC's website) was sometimes pretty entertaining, but since then he hasn't written anything worth reading.

Exactly how the hell do you avoid JFK, LGA, and EWR? Not go to New York? Limit yourself to flying into Islip? His "worst 24 hours of his life" at JFK was because his travel agent screwed up...what does that have to do with the airport? (Get a better travel agent, dude, and you won't care as much.) Some of his remarks about LGA are accurate - parts of the gate areas at Central Terminal are pretty dingy and look like they haven't been remodeled since the Johnson Administration. EWR's problems (and the traffic problem at JFK) are mainly due to construction - again, he has a few fair observations (the Port Authority does seem to have a bad habit of starting a part of the project, getting it partially done, then starting something else without actually seeming to ever finish anything), but methinks he doth exaggerate too much. Once the construction is done and AirTrain opens, JFK's traffic problems should pretty much go away - now that the parking garages are done, the traffic at the terminals has already improved greatly over a year or so ago, except where they've started on the new American terminal.

Strangely enough, although he mentions the food options at EWR, this is the one thing it would have been fair for him to hit on more: except for EWR Terminal C, all three airports are mediocre at best on dining. Other than the too-small and spottily maintained restrooms, the lack of dining options is my main complaint about the three PA airports.

This guy is totally talking jello.

Honestly, I dont' find BCentral or MSN or other 'news' or 'journalism' sites (other than MSNBC on Television) sponsored by Microsoft very credible, for reasons like this!

Those 5 airports are not ideal for hub operations today, as they are an older model of airport. However, does it really matter? Are you really going to drive to SNA from Downtown LA rather than having another 15 minutes of hassle at LAX? Probably not.

Actually, Colonel Sanders was a Kentucky colonel. It is a honorary status in the commonwealth of KY.

I stand corrected. Col. Sanders is truly a man fitting of his title. So is Capt. Kangaroo. But the "travel expert"? Nah.

All airports are gonna suck when you stuck in them because of weather, mechanical or ATC delays. Sure, there's a lot of nice airports, but when your trying to get home or go on a vacation, you really don't want to be in an airport. It don't matter is it's EWR, LGA, LAX or small airports like XNA, MHT or DAY, you just wanna get going.

So he had a s****y time in all those airports. Suck it up. Try riding a bike between JFK and LAX. Then he might have something to b***h about.

I am still trying to figure out how Diane Reinig flies to Miami "several times a year" from Newark to connect to Naples. Miami has not had non-stop service to Naples for more than two years now (well, Pan Am had a very short lived service in the summer of '02...very, very short lived...about 75 days).
