SAS Now Serving Beirut?

Wed Aug 20, 2003 9:04 pm

This past Friday around 2:30PM I spotted an SAS A321 landing in Beirut. Now is this a scheduled service or did I see a charter?

And yes, I am 100% sure that it was SAS. I had my binoculars with me.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

By all indications, no, including their latest timetable. Also not Snowflake. It may have been a charter or a special flight that you saw.

I don't think so, since they're using the 737NG's (and has a yellow tail). Could, of course, be a equipment swap.

Perhaps they're prepping for the Basra run? Though, it would then make a lot more sense if they were using the 767.

I think a UN charter or similar makes most sense.
Snowflake will indeed serve Beirut from Stockholm/Arlanda, but from the beginning of the winter timetable, October 26th, operated only Mondays BTW.

SAS operates an Airbus 321 every Saturday from Stockholm - Beirut
on charter basis on behalf of a Swedish Touroperator, effective during
June/August/September.

From Oct or Nov SAS low cost operator Snowflake will fly
Stockholm - Beirut every Monday or Friday, I am not sure, using a
Boeing 737-800 with 150 seats.
www.flysnowflake.com (The new destinations (Beirut/Lyon/Belgrade) is
not yet updated on the website map I saw some days ago).

The Snowflake fleet is 4 Boeing 738, two in special snowflake livery and two with the normal SAS livery. For registrations, www.sasflightops.com

Thanks for the reply. It makes sense that it was a charter.

And yes, it was definately not Snowflake that I saw. Snowflake will indeed be starting Stockholm - Beirut service on October 26 and will operate on Mondays on a 737-800.
