New KLM 777-200 Starts Service When?

Sun Aug 24, 2003 6:07 am

Hi guys, Does anyone know the date KL starts flying its 772 and on which route? Somehow I think it will be NRT or KUL.

Thanks

Definitely not KUL. They can hardly keep up with the demand on a 744. KLM is probably the only European airline that garnered success at KUL, and the MNL-KUL-AMS route is one of their cash cows.

I thought I heard that the 777s are being delivered in October, but I could be wrong. Personally, I'm hoping that we see them down here at IAH.

Nah, we need to keep our KLM 744 at IAH. It's the only one left now that BA switched to all-777 service.

Fine, keep the 744 at IAH. But honestly KL, at least give us some PTVs in Coach on the 744! IAH-AMS isn't exactly a short hop, and PTVs would be nice, and take ones mind off the abysmal seat pitch.

I heard from Ogden YYZ that KLM will fly their 777 to YYZ as the replacement for MD11 in the winter time.

PS. Johans airport code doesn't work on these ones:
DEL = Delhi [India]
NBO = Nairobi [Kenya]
Immigration officer: "What's the purpose of your visit to the USA?" Spotter: "Shooting airliners with my Canon!"

Does anyone know the reason why the MNL-KUL-AMS route so popular - even BA couldn't keep up with MNL-HKG-LHR...

How are the other two European airlines operating into MNL, Lufthansa (MNL-BKK-FRA) & Swiss (MNL-HKG-ZRH) doing?

9V-SVE,

MNL-KUL-AMS is popular because there isn't much choice from MNL to Europe. PAL haven't restarted their flights yet, so they are currently code-sharing with KLM on this route. Lufthansa is also doing extremely well on the MNL-BKK-FRA route, and this flight is popular with business travellers because it is daily. At one point in the 90's, 3 x a week it went nonstop to FRA, while the other 4 were via BKK. Swiss is also doing well on this route with MNL-HKG-ZRH. There were a lot of uninformed posts here about LX abandoning MNL during their route cuts, but during the SARS scare it was actually one of their few routes that were profitable, so it's definitely here to stay. I think the reason why BA left is because yields were low. MNL has always been a traditional low-yield market, and unfortunately that's just not BA's focus. AF has also recently started nonstop MNL-CDG (used to be via HKG or BKK), daytime flights on the 343's.

From an inside source, someone has told me that KL will ops DEL from Nov.4 or Nov. 3w/ the 777.

Also is there a chance that we would see KL serve ORD w/ the 777???
