...don´t know about other airlines either but LY
certainly have had loads of special security measures around since they were established. A mate of mine (who is Jewish, obviously) used to work for LY
security and he really has some good stories. I reckon there are a lot of classified stories but they wouldn´t ever talk about these.
Yep, shin bet are highly involved in these operations and LY
are really careful wherever they fly. Here in Helsinki for example there was always one LY
employee and the Finnish police at the end of the runway to secure landing and take-off - well, what happened in Kenya could happen anywhere I´m afraid. My mate also boasted of giving an order to close the airport in Helsinki three times during his career, well, I´m not sure what happened though but sounds interesting in any case. As for cargo their own staff control everything that is done on that side of ops too. I assume every single package is inspected quite thoroughly. Of what I´ve heard LY
was a real nuisance with cargo at HEL
- loads and loads of extra work for everybody.
According to my mate you can always spot the security guards pretty easily as they all look the same. I don´t know much about this but they have always guards who go with the rest of pax plus other personnel onboard as well. And at airports they patrol around the plane and all that stuff.
What I have understood the job is quite difficult in the sense that 99% of the time simply nothing special happens so it´s quite hard to stay alert. In the long run it is really easy to lull yourself into a false sense of security even if you are trained to do the job. Yep, the image that I got from my mate is that working for LY
security is a great job when you are young as you get to travel and have a great time in all the cities the airline fly to. I reckon most of us probably lack some of the qualifications to be hired by LY
