Breaking News...ATA 727 Emergency Landing!

Fri Dec 24, 1999 7:35 am

Forum-Goers...
I just turned on the 5 o'clock news, here in Indianapolis, and they showed an ATA 727 wearing the old colors (one of the very few left) making an emergency landing.

The flight originated as 476 from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Indianapolis (IND); it left FLL about about an hour behind schedule. The registration was either N760AT, or N763AT...'760' made an emergency landing in IND a couple of months ago when the landing gear locked in the down position, so they came back in and landed...this was a flight bound for Orlando (MCO); '763' is the only ATA 727 i've ever been on.

They (WTHR-13) interviewed several passengers after they got off the ol' bird, but most of them were so shaken up that they didn't even know what they were talking about.

Later on you can read the entire story at one (or all) of the following websites:

www.wthr.com
www.wish-tv.com
www.6news.com
www.fox59.com

The story is not on there yet, because they are still grabbing information, but you can check it out later!

I'll be back later to update the story!

More Details

The plane was bound from FLL-IND and during a regular check, the pilot detected a failure in a hydraulic system that controls the nose gears' steering when on the ground.

The plane had to be towed to the gate because it could not be steered.

That's what happened.

Sounds Like The Typical "A" System Failure..

...and routine procedural emergency landing...

I hope the local news media wasn't too disappointed about there *not* being a fireball upon landing...

I saw on the news that it was being towed to gate C9 at IND, but now I know why it was being towed...Thanks Bruce.

It sounds like not too serious a failure and the plane was due in at IND anyway....but at least the pilot was being on the safe side by declaring an emergency...JUST IN CASE. Good piloting.

If that were a Korean Air jet, he probably would have said awww, what the heck lets go fer it! (or however you say that in Korean!  )

Bad crews, bad planes, bad ships... What about the girls in Korea?
Korean jets are sure a good subject to spot!
Oh yes, fireworks were developed in the asian countries a few centuries ago...
