Airbus - That Little End Window

Tue Aug 26, 2003 6:08 am

Does anyone know what that little window behind the rearmost door on the old Airbuses (A300 and A310) was for? I remember looking at pictures of it when I was a kid and imagining a single row of seats on the other side, although I doubt this was the case. Was it to brighten up the galley, make passengers keen to spend long amounts of time in a bright toilet or something else? Why did they eliminiate it?

On the Monarch A300 I flew, the window at the back illuminated a small lobby area which was behind the galley where there where some toilets. I too once thought it was where they had squeezed in an extra row until I flew on one.

As ACEregular says the aft window provides illumination to the corridor on each side leading to the 2 toilets on each side & also to the galley area. The windows only exist on the aircraft where the rear galley is "transverse" (crossing from the left to the right of the cabin)....if it has a "longtitudinal" galley the window isn't there - have a look at an AA A300.

I could have sworn I saw one of our (AA's) A300's with that little window before, because I remember thinking the same thing--what is that for? Maybe the plate that covers it just fell off or something, I don't know. But all of our A300's have galley compartments right there that would block the view anyway.
