What Airlines Fly The B737-500and 600?

Tue Aug 26, 2003 9:28 am

I would like to know some airlines that fly the 737-500 and 600. I only know that Southwest flies these series or planes.

Thank you for the info on this.

Southwest does not have any -600 series of the 737. They do have only 25 of the -500 series. WN has, in the past, operated the -200, -500, -300 & -700 series only, along with half-dozen 727-200s in the 1980s. Regards.

Well, SWA doesn't fly -600 at all. That's for sure.

Forgot to answer the main part of your question there. Only one carrier operates both the -500 & -600 of the 737. TunisAir of Tunisia has 4 735 & 7 736. A sidenote, three leasing companies have ordered both series...GE Capital, ILFC & Pembroke. SAS never had the -500, just 28 of the -600. Hope that helps. Regards.

LOT Polish Airlines flies 10 B737-500's.

CSA Czech Airlines operate 5 of the same type. (B737-500)

if you count Braathens as part of SAS, then you could say it operates both, but i believe thats the closest you're going to get...

SAS was the launch customer for 736. Traditionally SAS was flying MD80's/DC-9's before the 737. Braathens flies the 500's as NorthStar mentioned, but SAS colors are only 736's (and 737-700 and 800's as well).
I have flown countless 735 on United. Mostly from EWR to the various United hubs. To be honest, I've found the MD80's in many ways more comfortable, especially the lower noise level because of the engine location.

Thankyou all for the information. As I can see many airlines did not buy this aircraft. Boeing must of lost alot of money on these 2 series of 737's.

LH currently operates 30 odd 737-500, along with another 30 odd 737-300.

The -500 and -600 shouldn't be grouped together.

The -500 is an old version of the 737 and the -600 is a next-gen version of the 737.

I think Tunisair flies both the 500 and the 600.

In addition to Tunisair, MALEV has operated (or still does operate) a few leased -500s alongside new -600. The -500 will be replaced by the -600s, so it is just a matter of months.

The -600 is not exactly selling like hot cake.....

What amazes me that Turkish has big numbers of -400s and -500s but in addition they operate either 2 or 3 -500s. Interesting combination..

SAS did indeed operate the -500, but they get rid of them all before the arrival of the -600s.
