Emirates To Lease 6 EX-SQA340-300.

Tue Aug 26, 2003 12:33 pm

Thought I would post this here...this is from Jim at the yahoo "orders" group.

""This is from the YSSY Message Board.

Emirates will lease 6 ex-SIA A340-300 starting 2004. The lease will
be short-term, and will be returned when the first of 25 (or 26?) 777-
300ERs arrive.

Flights to Perth will be a mix of 772 and 343.

Jim"

so I guess that leaves boeing with two A343s left.
Please excuse my English!

I hope those airplanes take-off at night at around 3 or 4 am out of Dubai and Perth. Otherwise those 343s will struggle mightily with density altitude.

Allo

this news are quite surprising, because Emirates are waiting for the A340-500.
BTW when is the first delivery of A340-500?

Regards

Well the Dubai - Sydney non-stop flight is to be launched in October so I presume around September.

What happens after the short-term lease? Turned into foil?

Well SriLankan is looking for 2 A340s. Maybe 2 of the the 6 that EK are ordering will go to SriLankan?

How many A343 does Boeing still have from SQ? What was the total they had?

It really would be weird if SriLankan Airlines would get the 343 from Boeing via EK.

Good to hear. There are at least two in basic SIA colours still sitting in Hamburg. Good to know they´ll be employed again soon.

ConcordeBoy,

DXB already gets some A343 flights from LH and LX.

LH no longer serves DXB with A 343s...its now B 744s for them....have they started Munich-DXB A 343 services?

A 343s SWISS brings to DXB and then onwards to KHI.
KLM B 767/ B 747-300
AF A 330-200
AZ MD 11 / B 763
BA B 772

What is the reason for VIRGIN ATLANTIC not flying to DUBAI...obviously there is something in the DXB-UK-DXB sector for BA to fly dbl daily and EK 8 times daily that too 6 a day (3 each) to LHR and LGW with B 777-200/300s!!!

VS would do well from DXB if flies their A 346s there daily. It could then get the connecting traffic from PAK-INDIA-SRI LANKA-Arab region etc as well!

EK can fly quite often to LHR/LGW because that route is also QF's Kangaroo route, EK is stealing pax of QF/BA and other airlines that fly to Australia.

Boeing took over 17 A340s from SQ. They placed three with Cathay Pacific rather early, and sent some to Khalifa, but they have now been returned (Khalifa aircraft). Two aircraft have been sent to Gulf Air, and two to SriLankan (?). So with six to EK, Boeing probably has four A340s left.

And on what routes exactly would these A 343s of EKs be used on?

My bets are on PER, OSAKA, LGW, MAN, India, HKG, South Africa and some other A 332 routes which have shown that extra demand especially for premium high yield traffic.

Given the length of DXB's main runway (over 14,000 feet), I don't think the A340-300 will have problems taking off from that airport with a full load.

Given that the EK A343's will be A340-313X models, I wouldn't be surprised they're used on the route from DXB to Australia.

MAN will not see the A340s. It may see a different type appearing on at least of one its daily services due to the high loads that are being seen.

Behramjee, Emirates have 9 daily flights into the UK, with the prospect of more added when/if the GLA flights start.
LHR and LGW each have 3 Daily flights 332,772,773 a/c
MAN 2 Daily A332
BHX 1 Daily A332

I don't know about the other stored ex-SIA Airbus Industrie A340-300X, but the two examples which are currently present at Hamburg (HAM) are in very poor conditions. It would take a few months to do the necessary checks and bring them into a conditions that a premium airline like Emirates requires.

Btw, AFAIK these six A340 for Emirates are still a rumour.
