I will be leaving JFK tommorrow with the first of U.S. Airways retired 727 200s. It was taken off line last night. I will be flying it to Chino California to a maintenance and reclamation center where it will await it's fate.
It will undergo a C check and then head for a cargo door conversion.
We will try to make the flight non stop. Depending on the winds we will probably be making a stop in Salt Lke City for fuel. We need to carry some balast fuel as we will be going empty. Ballast fuel is in the number 2 tank and cannot be used to keep the empty aircraft in CG limits.
I will be taking pictures and will post them when I have the opportunity.
