Commercial Inaugurals Flown On?

Wed Aug 27, 2003 10:56 pm

Over the years I've managed to fly on a couple of aircraft into service firsts, or near firsts. Anyone else?

767 commercial inaugural : UA 767 ORD-DEN N606UA
M80 US commercial inaugural: PS M80 SFO-LAX N924PS
744 non-US commercial inaugural: SQ SIN-HKG 9V-SMB

I was on the last revenue service for one of Delta's 727s...if that counts.  Laugh out loud

I was on the CO Inaugural flight to GVA from EWR. Of course, my connection from DFW was delayed, and I arrived at EWR with 15 minutes to connect. And, just my luck, DFW is one of the few flights that CO flies into terminal A instead of C....needless to say, I missed the flight. (It was still at the gate, but they wouldn't open the door for me.) Thus began the trip from hell, and I was routed through MAN and BSL, before arriving in Geneva 13 hours behind schedule. That's it...my only inaugural story.

Flew the inaugural Ansett international flight, which was to Bali, and also flew the commemorative 50th anniversary service for the first Sydney-Melbourne flight.
Cheers

All great stuff, especially the last DL 72S service (I flew an awful lot of them over the years, and would love to have flown on that last flight!).

Flew on Singapore Airlines first B777 commercial flight in Oct 1997 . . . to Jakarta, and as a bonus, the aircraft 9V-SQA was in the 50th Anniversary livery.

Also flew SAS' first A340-300 flight out of Singapore on 10 Dec 2001 . . . only to Bangkok while the plane continued to Copenhagen.

Flew Air Mandalay's inaugural flights from Yangon to Chiang Mai in 1995 and to Phuket in 1996.

The fun part about flying inaugural flights is the jubilant mood that goes with it . . . and the mementos that is sometimes given out.

I was on the world's first revenue 757 flight; Eastern Airlines, January 1, 1983 from Atlanta to Tampa.
I work for Southwest, but the views expressed are my own and do not necessarily represent those of Southwest.

By the way, I forgot to mentioned. I was on the world's first powered engine by Pratt-Whitney for Delta's 757.

-- Nov. 4, 1990, ORY-GRO on EAS. Recently inaugurated route... on a Caravelle!!!

-- Apr. 14, 2000, DTW-MXP, on Northwest. Very recent route for the season.

-- Feb. 15, 2002, IAD-DUS on United. I think it was the second or third day in service for this flight.

-- May. 9, 2003, PHL-DUB, on USAirways. Second day.

Maybe a couple more, but not quite really sure...

Don't know if that counts...

But if all goes well and AF doesn't change their plans at the last minute, fellow a.net-member Sabena332 and I will be onboard of the first commercial Airbus A318 landing in DUS. It is going to be on January 10, so if anybody wants to join, feel free to do so!  Smile

Reading my own post, I can see how us aviation enthusiats get the nerd reputation. Big grin

I was on the first JetBlue flight to Syracuse, New York (SYR) in May 2001. It was a very short flight and I do not even remember the tail number of the aircraft (gasp! shock!).
There was a nice water cannon salute upon landing, however. Very nice touch.
None shall pass!!!!
