Thu Aug 28, 2003 8:32 am

NW 757 to BOS with a 113 passengers on board, made a pecautionary landing in ALB today. No one was injured as the aircraft landed safely. The passengers were the boarded on buses to complete the journey.

Well the aircraft had hydralic problems, looks like it wouldn't be able to be repaired intime to make a flight feasible and probably wouldn't have been able to get them a replacement aircraft aout there. It's only 145 miles to Boston from Albany.

Hi!

Only 145 miles to BOS? That's a almost 3 hour drive!!! Looks like the driving was actually longer than the flight!!! NW is behaving bad!!!

NW is behaving bad?? And just what would you do instead? I realize it may not be the best situation, but no airline can just find an extra 757 in DTW (or wherever) with a crew and fly it down. Things don't work that way. That would take some time to organize. This was probably the best they could do in the quickest time....I am sure the pax were compensated for the inconvience. It is not like this kind of thing happens often at any airline...

According to the Northwest Airlines website the flight was continued with an A319 that departed at 7:10PM and arrived BOS at 7:5PM.

So yet another post before all the facts were in. Seems like we took care of our pax and got them safely to BOS. Enough said....

I've got the feeling that NW offered a bus to those customers who didn't want to continue on a flight that had a mx problem.

And out of this, someone says NW is behaving bad. Right.

I had a problem on an Allegheny flight at Erie, PA and had to ride 4.5 hrs to Binghampton, NY in a cab with 5 other passengers, let me tell you if you are not the one experiencing the inconvenience it always sounds good on paper. I can tell you that I never flew on the airline again, and after riding in such tight quarters for hours 31" seat pitch is like a lounge chair.

Hey just put down what was in the news release on the aviation news page. Take a look when you get a chance.

Dtwintlflyer is right....NW probably did the best they could in the circumstances. I don't have time to check timetables right now but doubt there's even scheduled nonstop service on ALB-BOS anymore that NW could have put any of the pax on (maybe CO Connection B1900's?). It was probably faster to get buses and drive the pax straight to Boston on I-90 than to put them on other carriers' flights to EWR, PHL, LGA, etc. and make connections. Or to find a spare 757 or Airbus and get it to ALB.

NW has a number of spare DC-9's that they keep available at their hubs, but I don't know what the deal was here. It may just have been faster (if not especially fun) to bus everyone.

Maybe the reporters were confused as to what NW meant as a "bus".
