I'll be taking an international trip in November, and it involves changing terminals at ORD with only about 1 hr 25 minutes to change planes (assuming everything goes right).
I'll be arriving at Terminal 3 and my departing flight is in Terminal 5, the international terminal. Arrival and departure times will be in the prime time hours (7:49PM to 9:15PM) and it looks like I will have to go through security at T5 to get to my flight. Both terminals sit pretty much next to each other on the ORD map, but I've never been to them as my trips normally take me through the United terminals.
So, I figure if there are no delays in getting to O'Hare, I should be fine. But I would like to know what to expect should I encounter a delay coming in that won't affect outgoing flights (i.e. nothing related to a system wide weather delay which tends to back up everything evenly). How quickly should I be able to get from 3 to 5 using the rail system? When at T5, how much of a line can I expect at security in mid November on a Tuesday? Are there any different restrictions for international customers vs. domestic ones or is TSA using the same check in procedures at all ORD terminals?
Coming back I shouldn't have these problems as I will have a 5 hour layover in ORD (with a bit of that needed to get through customs of course). Thanks in advance.
