717 BBJ?

Mon Sep 01, 2003 7:19 am

I was just reading the Robb Report and there was an article on Boeing's plan to make the 717-200 into a business shuttle for 40-80 people. The plane will have a max. Range of 3600nm (with extra fuel tanks). The plane will cost "only" $27 million, $10 million less than the commercial 717. Boeing is also extending the warranties on the new aircraft. The article said that this is being done to help sales of the 717.
Boeing is marketing this as a cooperate shuttle that can that can land at smaller airports such as Teterboro in NJ, because it is under the 100,000 lbs limit.

Does any one have any more information on this....Does Boeing already have customers?...And if not, who are they looking at for customers?...And do you think that this is a good idea for Boeing, especially taking a $10 million yet on each plane?

I think it's a very good idea. There are potentially many customers that would love to have the size of the BBJ but don't need the performance of the BBJ. Not to mention that they can't afford it. Even equipped, the "BBE" would run nearly half the cost of the BBJ. I think you'll see NetJets or Executive Jet being the first customers.

Have there been any orders yet for the 717 BBJ?

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

I don't know of any orders, but the BBE was previewed at the Paris Air Show, and the Moscow Air Show of this year.

Executive Jet is the radio callsign for NetJets.

Netjets is not having the response that they would like with the BBJ right now. I'm not sure they will want to jump on the bandwagon for the 717 just yet.

The 717 would make a great business jet. It's perfect for someone who doesn't need the larger size of the BBJ. The 717 looks real sleek too.

The BBE would be the perfect a/c for team charters, and the a/c has the range to do nonstop transcons.

Ah, thanks Raven111. Something was nagging me in the back of my mind after I posted.  Big thumbs up

Sounds like the price AirTran is supposedly paying for their 717s.
