KUL To Be Garuda's New Hub?

Mon Sep 01, 2003 6:07 pm

I have just read in the business times online that MAS and Garuda are due to seal a new wide-ranging agreement to offer more european flights to Garuda, and more Indonesian flights + Darwin to MAS.
At the moment, MH and GA have a codeshare agreement of MH's KUL-LHR/FRA services, and GA's DPS-DRW services. They are now hoping to add more european destinations to the codeshare network, incl. AMS, ZRH, FCO, CDG. Additionally, GA is planning to re-commence services to London in the future..with a technical stop in KUL.

they are also planning to increase services btwn KUL and indonesia - with GA's KUL-SUB service increasing to daily from the current 3x week... KUL-CGK will be developed further into an 'airbridge route' ...

Including Amsterdam? Will that mean Garuda stops flying there in its own right?

Zizou,

Yes, GA eventually will gave up AMS or something like that.

The first phase of newly signed code-share agreement will begins with KUL-LHR (6x weekly) and FRA (7x weekly) v v. And soon KUL-ROM v v and later AMS v v.

check out GA official website for the statement.

BTW, latest news, MH and GA Sign Master Agreement yesterday (2nd Sept). So, the question whether KUL to be GA's new hub... the is answer is yes.

Glad to be back from my summer vacation!

Anyway, GA is expected to increase its presence in Malaysia by introducing 5 new weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Denpasar-Bali as well as increasing the number of flights between Kuala Lumpur and Surabaya to one daily flight (from current 3 or 4).

sq_pilot.....cheers man.

That's good news for KUL.... this might mean that GA may accompany MH into whichever alliance they were planning to join? or maybe MH is still into bilateral agreements? not such a bad idea if things like this start to happen. who knows

MASkargo.... cheers dude.

He sees no valid reason for MH to join any alliance. As u can see, after Tajuddin Ramli, Azizan is working very hard to bring MH into profit and re-establish/restructuring the national carrier. That’s the main focus right now, followed by newly announced fleet revamp (long/medium), and soon online booking… well… that’s what my close source inside MH told me. Check Utusan Malaysian online archive for the interview.

I think MH will stick to bilateral agreement … at least for now. It profits and benefits MH, look at MH/KL partnership. I don’t think MH willing to give up its rights at the moment… or something like that.

On the other hand, good news for KUL, Mekong Airlines will inaugurate PNH and KUL to SIN, BKK, HAN under the new management/company called Mekong Airlines Sdn. Bhd. and yes… owned by Malaysian.

I'm still not sure that Garuda will gave up their own right on the AMS route entirely as it is one of their profitable route to Europe I think.... its just like Qantas with their kangaroo route (SYD-SIN-LHR) I think... although I'm not too sure about their other European routes..

But anyway I think we just have to wait and see I guess  Smile

Online booking is actually due to begin by the end of the year. A recent report did state that the reason MAS has not implemented this booking system so far is due to its lack of IT infrastructure - so its not quite as simple as just building a webpage that will allow on-line bookings to be made. Its entire reservations system will have to be overhauled to cater to this facility.

Agreed... and the last few years haven't been exactly rosy for MAS financially. Well, they were almost bankrupt! I am glad they are finally introducing the on-line booking though, it's about time as they have fallen behind their regional counterparts by a few years now.
Welcome to my starry one world alliance, a team in the sky!

The mastermind behind MH successful restructuring program is its Managing Director, Md Nor Yusof. His the one.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

MH Senior General Manager (sales, distribution & marketing) confirmed the statement... Ahmad Fuaad Dahlan said the airline would not focus on joining a mega alliance this year. “We may join an alliance one fine day, but at this point, we want to concentrate on improving ourselves and to look at relationships where there are mutual benefits. If you join a large alliance, definitely the larger carriers will benefit more.”

I hope MH new website and online booking will looks impresive. Just like its TV ads, produced by Leo Burnett. Hmmm... with MH online booking goes online soon... is that mean Zuji (www.zuji.com) will finally launch its Malaysian Portal after several delays??

BTW, the the master agreement will valid for 3 years.
