Thank god.

Its about damn time, although I understood their need to protect themselves against CC fraud the CVN would have been a sophisticated way to accomplish it that's been around for years.

Thank God. Last Christmas I went to fly back home to see my family and almost couldn't because the card that I had used to purchase the tickets with had been stolen a few days before. After some begging and pleading I convinced the agent to resell me my seat at the same price if I could get enough cash out of the MAC. It takes a while to get a couple hundred dollars out of one of those things in $50's.

Besides, I had always wondered what people traveling on business did when a corporate travel agency purchased the tickets for them. What if they didn't have the same card?

This policy has been yet another reason why I don't like United and the other legacy carriers. My wife and I have relatives in Texas, and we like to fly them up here and pay for their fare. Under this old policy, it was difficult to pay for their travel. I would have to go to the airport and get tickets and then send them to the passengers.

Well done, United. Now get rid of the $100 change fee and you'll be more likely to have my business again.

That's funny,of all my trips on UA (20+) I've only had to show my CC once - when my ROC-IAD flight was cancelled and I was rebooked on DL (727!!) .

The easy way to travel despite a theft or lost card is with a statement bearing the card number. I lose a check card at least once quarterly, and have never had a problem.

You lose a card quarterly and yet seem unconcerned. That would worry even me and I'm approaching senility rapidly. Not the money issue but the fact that I'd be such a dimwit to lose so many.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Funny thing though. I've never had to show anything but a valid ID to board a flight.

Just purchase a refundable/unrestricted ticket and your problem is solved.

I think buying a Citation jet would be cheaper. But thanks for the suggestion. I'll stick to Southwest's low non-refundable fares that can be cancelled with no change fees and used at a later date (within a year of original purchase).
