Based on my recent experiences with UA, I give their employees high marks for friendly professionalism and efficiency. The unfortunate reality is that the fate of UA and its employees is in the hands of management who have shown no evidence to indicate that they "get it."

////UNITED IS RISING
////NOW MORE THAN EVER, FLY THE FRIENDLY SKIES!!!

I just want to say thank you to all of the great people who make up the greatest airline! I have been flying your airline for many years and have had many wonderful memories flying them. I also have many family members who work at UA that help make it great, and many family members who have retired from UA. I look forward for all the memories that will happen in the future as a passenger and future UA pilot!

Thanks for this post!

I too get VERY TIRED of all the negativity about UA on this website, so this is very refreshing. United has always been a part of my life, and I expect it always will be....some of my favorite memories are directly/indirectly related to UA!

There was an announcement today by UA (posted on the website) that they are allowing MP upgrades without having to use additional miles, effective immediately.

I'm optimistic for their future for a number of reasons:
- steadily increasing cash balance
- cash burn has steadily been DECREASING
- rejection of costly contracts/leases
- resumption of full service to Asia and strong Star Alliance ties
- recent turnover at the executive ranks...rotten apples like Andy Studdert, etc. are GONE!!!!
- operational performance
- reports that inflight service is improving (4 recent flights of mine were Great!)

Could go on and on...

////UNITED IS RISING once again, and look out for those in the way!

I love United. I've got a photo album of UAL in my profile. They're basically the only airline that I fly (being out of LAX) but I believe they've really got a lot going for them despite their financial situation-a great global network, great strides in customer service, a lot of innovation... they're really on their way to recovery.

I agree wholeheartedly with everyone's comments. Many, many of the employees of United, like the employees of every other airline, are hardworking and dedicated, but are undermined by upper management who just "don't get it". No commentary on the current management, who have a nearly impossible job to do, and are somehow powering through many obstacles.

I've worked for UA for 9 years, and I'm proud of the job that I do, and the airline I work for. Every single day. It infuriates me when various unions start unofficial "job actions", or when lazy employees make UA look bad.

Viva United!

Anyways, here's hoping for UA. If they pull through, great... if not, they'll join the ranks of their former peers PanAm, TWA, and Eastern in history. Not so horrible an outcome either way (for those of us not employed by the airline anyways)  Big grin

I have had many great experiences with United on both domestic and international flights. It is my choice of airline for several reasons:
1. It has the best international networks among all U.S. carriers.
2. I like its services and the flight attendants are always friendly.
3. It is in the largest alliance that gives me even more choice of destinations.

I wish United all the best and hope it emerges from Chapter 11 soon.

I like UAL, I grew up flying UAL till I started with CAL. I just think some of their employees in ORD can be at times unfriendly, but then you look at our EWR employees, and it can at times make them look like angels!!!!

I always wanted to work for UAL as well, till I started with CAL, always nice airports. ORD, DEN, SFO, LAX, I still enjoy flying UAL.

I have always loved United. The excellent crew, great service(pre 9-11), great memories. I loved the A320, DC-10, and 777 in their New Colors. Let's also not forget the stunning appearance of the old colors on the 727!

I  Love BOI

PS: Someone also tell me the thing B747-437B did that was so funny, could someone link me up to the original post? If not, tell me what happened, please!

Concordeboy, way to kick em in the teeth.

Most of the UA staff have undergone a rotten couple of years from seeing their friends die in New York and Pennsylvania to seeing their fleet slashed, their jobs threatened, had their pay cut and on and on.

I haven't had the best experiences on United, (their trans-pacific folks did a good job though) but try not to add insult to injury as it were. They already know they went bankrupt and seeing all those Boeings rotting the desert is painful to the people that flew them and maintained them. Shoving it in their faces when they are trying to cheer themselves up is not the act of an honorable person.

When I was 5 years old, me, my father and grandfather went plane-spotting at O'Hare. We were parked on Irving Park Rd and I will never forget how close that United 747-200 was to us. After that experience, I have been a United Airlines fanatic. United will always be Chicago's Hometown Airline and my first airline of choice for air travel. May God Bless all of the United Airlines Family.

Im flying to Orlando on Sunday and Im really looking forward to it. I flew United a couple of time back in April and they impressed me sooo much Ive chosen them over a direct flight with Virgin.
United are definetley the best American carrier, I'll choose them anyday over AA/DL, even VS/BA! (but they still dont beat bmi...)

Having grown up in San Francisco, United was (and is) pretty much the only choice. Thank God. I'm not saying UA is perfect, but they sure beat the pants off most of the U.S. carriers. No, I don't work for UA and no, I'm not Premier anymore. But after the last few trips on other carriers, give me UA anyday!

Yes, they do have bad management (but don't they all? why?), however it's the line employees who make up the image passengers get. In the Bay Area, UA has done incredible things for the community. Financial and volunteer labor donations at our hospitals are most appreciated. And that list goes on.

SFO may be a hub for UA, but better UA than other carriers! At one time UA had a slogan for their Hawaii run - "Our little corner of the World." Well, when it comes to travel, UA is "my little corner of the World!"

My father was a United pilot all of his life; started with the company in 1940. I grew up under United's wing, so to speak. Whenever I fly today, I always check first with UAL. There's definitely a fondness in my heart for United Airlines.

I grew up in New York, so United was not a common carrier for me to fly. The other day I went to Denver and back and their customr service skills were extraordinary! The Pilot shook every single passenger by hand before takeoff and the gate agents and attendants were very nice. It seemed they were truely happy to have me around. Plus, they are still the only carrier with channel 9 (my favorite). I now would pick United over any similarly priced airline. I would not have before.

That is good news for United as a fly at least 25 Roundtrips a year. Before they would have earned a trip only if I had no other option. I now will seek them out more actively...

If other pax get the same experience, you will see the whole operation turn around quickly.

On my two visits to the USA from the UK I have only flown with United.
There service I believe is second to none,pilots/cabin-crew/gate-staff have always seemed friendly and professional.
I have been lucky enough to fly A320/737/757/767/777 and a EMB120 in the colours of United.
All the best United and good luck to you all!!!

Returning to the USA next year and guess who I"ll be flying with?

Well, Unitied may not have the best stewardesses in the world, their service may not be the best, their management may be poor.

BUT, they are a truly great airline. They are a world airline, with a network spanning the globe and an excellent fleet. I wish them the very best, and I am sure they can pull through this tough patch a return to its former glory.

My problem, dear UPSfueler... is that I dont take any of this a fraction as seriously as you all seem to. 'Twas but humor, no one's hurt by it, and it's certainly not worth the plethora of hate mail I've been receiving because of it  Laugh out loud

Oh, and as for me hating UA: I'm probably the [self-described] biggest fan the 777 will ever have... so just how much do you think I could hate the airline that launched and operates more of them than any other?  Big grin

I have flown on around 20 different airlines and United has been and remains my favorite. I have received consistently some of the best service from very friendly crews who did their best. You are the best United and will remain my first choice when I fly. United is and will continue to rise above the rest

Concordeboy:

I salute thee for having the spine and the balls to tell it like it is.

Celebrating United, an organization that is losing millions a day, is like celebrating a drunk who managed to go a full 6 months without a DUI arrest, as opposed to only three.

Frankly, I have no sympathy for anyone at UAL. Aside from abominable service, why are they blaming their woes on management?

Didn't they spend the first half of the 90's taking control of the airline themselves and putting THEIR OWN PEOPLE INTO power at UAL?

IT WAS AN EMPLOYEE, FREAKING OWNED COMPANY!

I second the service by United also..
No any other airline provides :
-Econ Plus
-Ch. 9
-Alternative hubs (ORD gets dumped , I can still go home through DEN,IAD)
-Free headsets
-Free movies

Will be flying UA on Sep. 11 home.. I still get choked by the flag that I see at the departure gate in EWR. This airline has been through it all, bad management, dumb moves and Sept. 11 , and I will do my best to support it as a customer..
