Some Intersting Tid-bits For Christmas

Sun Dec 26, 1999 6:16 am

For Christmas I received my usual list of timetable I have been after. Some of my questions have now been answered and if anyone else is intersted here is what I found out. United operated its L1011 fleet nonstop from SFO to NAR. From NAR they flew to just about every port in Asia served by UAL. They also flew DC10's nonstop from SEA-HKG. On the return trip HKG-SEA, the flight is listed as nearly 14 hours. This was in 1986. Also, in 1990, TWA had a large hub in Paris and they even comment on it in one of their timetables. they say something like "We are the only US carrier with a hub in Paris" They flew to just about every European city they served from CDG. They also flew within Germany like the original Pan Am did.

That's interesting. I have an Ambassador's Magazine from 1992, and they show Paris as being a TWA. It also showed Atlanta Hartsfield as being a TWA hub. I meant to ask, a while ago, there was a post about TWA flying large widebody aircraft to smaller non-hub cities. For example, TWA flew their L-10-11's to Albuquerque. I was wondering what other cities such as Albuquerque had scheduled widebody aircraft. Specifically Port Columbus. The reason is because I was flipping through a book about the city and they had a section about the airport expansion that was done some time in the '60's. In the picture of the aritists rendering of new terminal, there is a TWA L-10-11 taking-off. Did TWA ever schedule such an aircraft at CMH? By the way, do you have any information on PeoplExpess, and the aircraft they flew on certain routes? Thank you very much for any information. I really appreciate it.

In the early 1980's, TWA flew from CMH nonstop to ORD, DAY, LAX, JFK, LGA, STL, and DCA. MCI was also served for awhile. As for the widebody question, yes, TWA flew L1011's from CMH to STL, and LGA. As for other smaller cities, I know TWA flew L1011's to PIT in the early 80's and even 747's in the late 70's. What was it that you wanted to know about PEOPLExpress? They flew to CMH with 737's I believe. What else did you want to know?

I really appreciate the information, thanks alot. About PeoplExpress, I just wanted to know the aircraft that they operated from CMH. But once again, thanks for going through the trouble of looking up the information for me.
