Dutch Aviation Rumours.....and V-Bird

Thu Sep 04, 2003 11:14 pm

ok, so here are some rumours i´ve heard from aviation-related folks...

- Air Holland to expand / are currently hiring
- Dutchbird to start flying from Niederrhein Airport in Germany
- A new airline in the Netherlands, to be called: something with "dutch"

And finally: who can tell us more about start-up airline: V-Bird?

regards

Vbird is scheduled to start flights as from september 20th, but I think this will be delayed until oktober/november. Their website is still quite empty  Smile/happy/getting dizzy One VBird A320 is still in Canada, a few others are located somewhere in the USA (no reports on that planes yet). They will operate on the Flight Certificate of DutchBird from Niederrhein Airport (Germany).

It will be a ´Jetblue´ kind of airline, lowcost but with a more ´styly´ service.

In a few weeks a big advertisement campaign will start in both Holland and Germany to attract consumers to the new airline.

V-Bird is the new dutch airline (backed by Dutch Bird) which intends to fly from Niederrhein to destinations like Vienna, Munich, etc.

More info at:

http://www.spottersunited.com/ --> News --> New Airlines

Their first plane (PH-VAC, ex C-GJUP) is still at Toronto (YYZ) as of August 29, 2003. Also their websites http://www.vbird.com/ and http://www.vbird.nl are not working yet. So I don´t think they´ll be able to start flying on September 15 (as originally planned)...

And KLM to be bought out by Air France soon if the "cooperation" talks bear fruit, meaning an end to the world's largest airline as well as an ultimate end to Schiphol (which will be relegated mainly to a point from where people are ferried to Paris for their connecting flights).

That will over 5-10 years cost 200000 or more jobs in the country.
I wish I were flying

Jeroen, you mean the worlds oldest airline as I am pretty sure AA are quite a bit bigger than KLM  Big grin

To add to the rumours, Martinair Holland is strongly considering service to St. Maarten. It would be operated via Miami.

Martinair to SXM via Mia? Although I would welcome any new airline here, I do not think it will be an interesting alternative for anyone now we have non-stop flights to CDG on AF and even to AMS on KLM (starting Oct 14) with very reasonable rates. I don't think they can beat that but let's wait and see.

One of the KLM folks parked a 737 in the wrong side of the hanger and got a parking ticket on his window ...
