What Is Your Hometown Airline?

Sat Sep 06, 2003 12:33 pm

Here at SDF I wouldn't say we have a "hometown" airline though people do seem to prefer DL for some reason. WN is also catching on but it doesn't have the feel of DL since they have been flying here forever it seems like.

In ATL I'm sure DL is the hometown airline but do people feel like AirTran is hometown too? US at CLT, PHL and PIT are probably in the same boat.

What is the experience at your airport? I'm especially anxious to hear about those cities that aren't a major hub.

Regards,
John

I really have a hard time ditinguishing that at my hometown airport. My home airport is LAX. Every airline seems to be our hometown airline. Maybe Southwest, AA and UA.

For MCI it was definitely TWA, but now, sadly, they now longer exist and even worse AA is getting rid of the MCI-STL flight. But now I would have to say the hometown airline is WN, they by far have the most flights per day here and they do very well here. People have really taken a liking to them and I like them a lot too. There section of the terminal is always packed and WN is getting a couple more gates here too.

I think this is a really good thread.

CO is in control of EWR

UAL has 8 gates and has a base there. Most of the time not all are in use. I wish UAL would have more diverse routes out of EWR like the used to.

AA at this moment has 6 gates and flies to the main hubs and also RDU. By next year will upgrade some flights to 767 including LAX, SJU, and MIA. This is maybe a possible sign of things to come (I HOPE)

DL has 6 gates and flies SONG too

For Jacksonville, FL (JAX): it's Delta

Directs flights to/from:

Atlanta, GA (almost hourly service using B-767-300 w/252 seats.)
Cincinnati, OH (4 daily roundtrips)
Dallas/Fort-Worth, TX (4 daily roundtrips)
New York, NY - La Guardia (4 daily roundtrips)
Washington DC - National (2 daily roundtrips)
New York, NY - Kennedy (2 daily roundtrips starting sometime this month)

I'm willing to bet we resume direct service to Boston before April 2004. We had it for a very short time prior to 9/11.

Here at ROC, USAirways has the largest presence, but jetBlue and United carry about the same amount of pax (more on some days), so it's all personal choice.

Here at SKBO there are two airlines

1-Alianza Summa (Avianca-Aces *defunct*-SAM)
2-Aerorepublica

But the one i like is Aerorepublica
Just put me on any modern airliner and i will be happy, give me more star alliance miles and i will be a lot more happy.

In years past, Delta held claim to the title of "MSY's hometown airline", with numerous nonstops domestic and international, including nonstop L1011's to LAX, SJU, DFW, and ATL.

Since Delta has, however, decreased overall service in the past few years...including some incredibly idiotic route cancellations...my vote for New Orleans' hometown airline goes to Southwest, with its 60 daily departures to 15 cities (including 20 a day to Houston and 15 daily Florida nonstops).

Delta still probably holds on to the number two spot in overall prestige here, followed closely by American and Continental.

I live in Austin now, but I grew up in the DFW area, so there was never any doubt as to my hometown airline, in terms of airport dominance and actual corporate headquartering. In fact, I could probably could on one hand the times I've ever flown a carrier besides AA -- it's just that convenient. Well, that, and I don't travel all that much.

I would definantly say America West/America West Express for PHX. Rough estimate they control about 60%-75% of PHX's traffic.

Hmmm...LAX let see...this is gonna seem like bragging a bit...
UA has Terminals 7 and 8 and half of 6 and every type of UA airc.
CO at T6 brings in MD80,733/5/7/8/9s, 752/3,762/4 and 777 svcs.
DL shares T6 and has T5 with MD90, 733/8,757, Song 757,763/4,Sun Country
AA has T4 w (QF 744 arrivals only) AA has MD80,738,757,762/3,777 svcs
Bradley Intl. Term
Alaska dominates T3. 734/7/9 Horizon Q-400 and CRJ7 shr w F9,TZ,YX
T2 sees Northwest A319,A320,752/3, DC-10, 742 with ANZ 763,744s
(plus KLM 744,Virgin 744, A340,Air Canada A319,A320,A321 occas 762/3,Aviacsa 732)
And T1 WN 733/5/7, HP CRJ7,A319,A320,752s and US A319,A320,A321,752,762

A well balance of US carriers at a single airport location with a great international mix as well. And a note of interest- this spring-when Delta had chartered 777s in and out..I managed to get all US 777 carriers in one shot. And as Delta slowing reinstates itself in AA), Japan">NRT (with upcoming 777 svc on ATL-AA), Japan">NRT)..it's only a matter of time before they restart LAX-AA), Japan">NRT and it'll have to be 777s--making LAX the only US airport with constant 777 svc from all us operators of the type. The only other airports to see all four US cxrs..AA), Japan">NRT, CDG and FRA.

Where I am at right now would be Fukuoka, Japan. RJFF is the airport...

ANA and JAL are the big guys here, with routes that just about parallel eachother. Which is crazy, really. Oh, and JAS flies around a bit. But I would have to say that it is ANA and JAL.

Well, since I live in Amstelveen, it has to be KLM. KLM's headquarters is in Amstelveen and it is registered as a company from here. Amstelveen is stated as location in many KLM Press Releases.

I live in Madrid, Spain...so the answer is easy...IBERIA !!!
There are lots of Air Europa and Spanair aircrafts too, but Iberia beats them all.

Sometimes at MAD you can count more than 50 or 60 Iberia aircraft at the same time.

I technically am an ATL resident, but i live and go to High School in FLL, so I'll do both

ATL is obvious, jetBlue!!!!!!!

ok, seriously.... DL and FL

FLL's "hometown" airline is Spirit, but AA, DL, B6, and maybe FL are bigger here.

I did see my first spirit in between classes yesterday...it was on the shotest final ever to FLL! (they usually go a mile or 2 or even 3-5 out and on short final, they go over the other end of the school)
NEXT FLIGHT: FLL-ATL-HPN on FL

For the Washington DC/Baltimore MD area:

Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) is proudly owned by Southwest Airlines which has *all* the gates in Concourse B and a third of the gates in Concourse C. And when construction ends on Concourse A, WN will have *all* the gates there, also.

Washington-Dulles International (IAD) is owned by United Airlines which owns all the gates in Concourse C and a quarter of the gates in Concourse D. United Express carrier Atlantic Coast Airlines owns Concourse A (literally). Air Wisconsin, also operating as United Express, uses gates in Concourse T.

Ronald Reagan-Washington National Airport (DCA) is owned by US Airways whose headquarters is a mile away in Arlington, Virginia.

Technically, the only airline based in Nice is Air Littoral (FU) - but they are on the point of going bung, so it may end up as EasyJet ! Air France don't count, they only fly to Paris themselves, and let Regional / Brit Air fly everywhere else (which isn't much).

Speaking for STL-

NO DOUBT it was TWA. But now its AA.

However if WN keeps adding the flights like they mention they may do, WN could overcome AA. But AA controls about 75% of the traffic at Lambert-STL. Southwest is behind 2nd with about 18%, and the rest of the airlines follow per se...

Alex.

Now if your talking about my HOMETOWN(where I actually live....) I will speak for MWA-Marion, Illinois and that is Cororate Airlines as its the only airline that flies...

Orlando's hometown airlines are most likely Delta, AirTran, and maybe even Southwest. I don't live in Orlando permanently any longer. I'm now near Fresno, and the hometown airline here is definitely Allegiant Air. Most passenger operations seem to be with SkyWest, though.

SAS here at ARN, but we are second ... CPH is THE hub for them  Crying .. Though we are also the "second hub" for FINNAIR  Smile That´s amazing since AY is a 100% Finnish company and SAS is divided between Denmark- CPH, Norway - OSL and Sweden -ARN.
I guess SKYWAYS with a own (small) terminal would be "our" airline (even though the HQ is quite far from here)
Guess there´s no winning for us at this moment of time....

Here at CVG it is Comair.
Comair was started here and grew here. The first commercial CRJ flight was between YYZ and CVG.
Of course Comair is now owned by Delta, so as far as the two letter airline code DL dominates.

When taken litteraly, the only airline which has some sort of administrative base at my hometown airport - DTM - has to be Eurowings. However, they are moving more and more of their operations and flights away from here.  Sad
