Best Commercials

Not that UL's commercials are funny, but adopting American Rhapsody as the official theme is classy and really captures American culture.
Southwest's 'You're now free to move about the country' is also clever.
Any thoughts?

Definantly Delta's Adiemus commercials. Despite its age, I can still remember the commercial quite clearly - which is ANY marketing experts number 1 goal.

I certainly agree with you here.... whenever I hear "Adieums", I immediately think of Delta, even after all these years.

Considering that I listen to "Pure Moods" quite a bit, that's a lot of Delta-thought!  Big grin  Smile

I agree, Flybynight. I think WN's "Wanna get away?" commercials are very clever as well as the "*DING* You are now free to move about the country." slogan. B6 has several good ones too at http://jetblue.com/havefun/media/media.html.

Southwest's television commercials, especially those that portray an embarassing personal situation followed by "...when you have to get away," ending with what sounds like a Captain's voice announcing "you are now free to move about the country" are the best present-day airline ads IMO.

N243NW - Jet Blue commercials are great. Too bad the flight from SEA to JFK is a redeye flight. I took it once.
How come I can't remember the DL MD11 commercial? Must have been in the early 90's when the only thing I cared about was partying.

I have to say the best airline commercial I've seen is bmi's hemorrhoids commercial. They showed a man sitting in his seat looking very unconformtable, and a flight attend walks up, looks at him, and says "Hemorrhoids." The passenger then shows a relieved look, and the camera pans to show that he had been working on a crossword puzzle and the answer was, indeed, hemorrhoids. Someone at bmi had a good sense of humor!
Cheers,

Hiii Folks.

I don't know how many years i don't see an airline commercial on TV.

A few years ago, perhaps 1993 or something like that, PGA portugalia Airlines sponsored some TV programs on SIC television, in portugal.

The sponsored programs were the "Jornal da noite" (night information) and also the program "PLAYBOY Late Night" !!!! UAUUUUUUU  Big thumbs up

What they wanted to mean with that.... a serious airline sponsoring a program like that.... my god... Or they wanted to state that their flight attendents were so hot like the girls on the program? eheheh or they will offer a free shag in flight...  Big thumbs up ehehhe

Crazy times!! but i miss a good airline commercial  Crying a lot of time i don't see one on portuguese televion... the last i saw was that one of British Airways with that YANNI music... - "THE WORLD's FAVOURITE AIRLINE!"

American's commercials that aired a few months after September 11 that ended "Proud to bear the name...American" were among the best I've ever seen. The music, the scenes of AA aircraft and employees, everything was incredible. I remember one was named "Engine" however I can't recall the name of the other. There used to be a website, aapride.com, which featured them but it's since been shut down. I also liked Delta's "Adiemus" commercials. Delta always comes to mind when hearing that song. Lastly, Frontier's "A whole different animal" commercial are very clever. All of them are extremely well done, and can be found off Frontier's website at:

FlyCMH: I agree w/ u w/ AA's. For "pride" sake i loved their motto "Proud to bear the name...American".

Also again agree w/ all of u guys regarding SouthWest's "U r not free to move..." very catchy.

And also love our ads from JetBlue. Very catchy songs (that get stuck in my head at times). My fav's are the "subway" commercial and one of our newest ones from this year done at LGB (Tune has..."I can't stop this feeling...deep inside of me...")

Fly safe everybody!

On SNL after 9/11/02 hey had one of those fake comercials:
"statistics show that terrorists are muslum males between the ages of 15-60 so we give them the most thorough check in the industry" "some may call it profiling..." I forget what they said next, but at the end they say "bing your tweezers!"

my favorite REAL commercial is the WN "try doing your job on ice" commmercials for the NHL. they have people doing normal jobs on ice and falling down and stuff! funny!

My favorites (or, rather, favourites) were the British Airways ads from the late 'eighties (when the Landor scheme was still fresh) featuring the music of Verdi. Very, very classy.

I also like the AA serious ads- emphasis on the professionalism of its employees very reassuring.

SWA's ads are always a hoot.

And (for those who had the chance to see them) Ansett's "Shine" campaign (right before its death) were outstanding. Too bad AirNZ bought 'em.

MX5Boy has those recorded and stored somewhere...

"Am I with Ansett? Absolutely!"

My personal favorites include the BA commercial with the crew of the ISS (or perhaps MIR) eating "airline food" while two guys in a BA shuttle are dining extravagantly and watching the tele.

The Alaska airlines commercials from the 80s were pretty cute too. I especially like the one where you had this poor passenger crammed into a seat with all sorts of "airline nightmare" scenarios going on around him (such as two really big guys sitting around him dancing in synch to music on headphones).

Oh, those Alaska ads- forgot about them, and they were a hoot!

"Pygmey Chickens.... I like it!"

"Pate in a drum."

"Reusable parsley"

The old Ansett Australia commericals from the mid 1990's were good. They featured the 747-300(Ansett called them "spaceships")in flight and showed inside the plane too. Another good one from the early 1990's is the Compass Airlines commercial. I still remember how it goes- "Compass, we're your airline". And it showed all the crew standing in front of an MD80. Pity they disappeared.

When Aloha adopted the song, "Aloha" by the Mana'o Company as their theme song they had a great commercial that showed the usual aircraft shots plus some very touching footage of an Aloha gate agent and a flight attendant assisting young passenger. The song was written with Aloha in mind.....it includes the following lyrics:

"I wanna get high, with a little Aloha. I can touch the sky, with a little Aloha. Lets spread a little bit of Aloha, A-L-O-H-A a little Aloha in your day. Spread a Little Aloha around the world."

I get a really great feeling every time I see it. The song/commercial really capture the experience of flying Aloha.

Hawaiian's "Wings of the Islands" commercials are really great too.

Aloha!

Malaysia Airlines tends to have excellent poster/newsprint ads. Apart from that to go with their new slogan of 'Going Beyond Expectations' - they launched a whole series of new TV ads last year.

The last one I'd seen on TV here in the UK was on SkyOne advertising its helicopter service for First Class passengers in the UK and its Limo service for Golden Club. The other good ones are their short ads like the one about their 'inflight entertainment' and 'sleeper flights - where the reading light button icon comes alive and is animated to switch itself off'. Very simple yet effective.

You can download most of them from their website at www.malaysiaairlines.com.my

Those of us here in the UK can look forward to their next media campaign which will focus on their new nonstop London-Langkawi and London-Penang flights due to be launch with the start of the Northern Winter schedules.

CO had a great one a couple years ago during the "Subway" series, it showed Joe Torre sitting in a CO Business First seat on a flight about to depart. All of a sudden Bobby Valentine (then coach of the Mets) sits down right next to Torre, they then give each other this look.

Then there's the CO ad which promotes their young fleet, the asks "why do we enjoy our young fleet so much", they then show a picture of Gordon Bethune behind the controls of one of their aircraft who turns and winks at the camera. They then say "We like flying the youngest jet fleet because it makes other pilots/airlines jealous".
