Delta Livery Changes

Mon Sep 08, 2003 11:41 am

Im not sure if this has been covered before, but here goes:
For 30+ years Delta held onto their classic Widget livery, then changed it in 1997 to a very nice design, and then again in 200(or 2001?) to the newest wavy gravy c/s(which are pretty cool in my eyes). But, my question is, why did Delta hold onto one scheme for so many years, then change it twice in three years?

Thanks everyone!

in my opinion the widget livery is still the best and everybody will always associate DL with that livery. However I believe that DL changed the livery in such a short amount of time because the old new livery really didnt reflect what DL stood for.
I love the flag livery on DL now and I believe that it fits DL and is a decent replacement for the widget if that is possible......

Just my thoughts

I believe it was one of the first things that Leo Mullin did when he began his tenure at Delta. I don't know if many people recognize it too much, but the entire widget itself was redesigned to incorporate a new corporate outlook of the company. I personally thought that the OOC looked the best of all of them. I cannot stand the NOC, they are just plain ugly

The newest livery really establishes Delta as more of a U.S. flag carrier. After all, I believe they carry more passengers then anyother airline. I remember most of the change to the curret livery was with the arrival of a new CEO or something who had objectives.
