Who Buys Ex-SAS 767s?

Wed Sep 10, 2003 1:39 am

Three ex-SAS 767-383ERs have been parked on military ramps at Stavanger Airport Sola for a few months. Despite our humid climate, and that the airport is very close to a lot of salt water, SAS were very keen on storing aircraft here. Maybe because of the Norwegian Military's minor parking fee, less than £100 (NOK 1000) per month for all the three I think. Anyway, a couple of days ago someone told med that all three of them recently had been sold and soon would leave Stavanger for their new owner(s)/operator(s). Today, OY-KDN left for Copenhagen. Does anyone out there know who the new operator(s) will be? (I don't).

Those a/c have lots of miles on them.

It would be interesting to know how many hours and cycles those airframes have....

Any cargo carriers wanting a 763 Freighter these days? UPS? Lan Chile?

The AB6 freighter has outshown the 763F due to its ability to carry extra cargo but the 763F has the longer range!

The airframe cycles indicates midlife, but the hours are very high. The average sector flown by these aircraft is about 7hrs15mins - seriously well utilised aircraft. 60,000 hours is high, the highest number of hours scored by a single 747 airframe is 101,000, and these three planes are nearly two thirds of the way there.

For starters 60,000 flight hours is certainly mid life for the 767. While SAS has indeed utilized these aircraft quite well over the years, the airframes have been maintained very well, and are still young in age having been built in 1990.

There are certainly many other 767 fleets with higher hours and cycles.

In regards to the 747, 101,000 flight hours has been exceeded by several aircraft a few years back. A quick review of my fleet data show at least 25 aircraft with over 100,000 hours, and the fleet leaders being a 200F at Korean and a KLM -300, both with over 115,000hours.

There is another ex-SAS Boeing 767-300 that has been parked here in Brussels, Belgium for several months as well. The aircraft has also been painted all white. No news as to what will happen to it.
