Wow! The one of the MD-80 about to land is great!

Had not heard about this incident, were there any injuries? What was the cause of the gear not coming down?

Rgds,

Greg

The Fokker 100 incident was a few days later, not a gear problem but a flock of birds in engine problem after takeoff LGA and landed JFK.

Michael is correct. The AA F-100 incident was the next day. It was an LGA-MDW flight that had a bird strike on climbout. The number two engine was severely damaged and the pilots shut it down and perfomed and emergency landing at JFK.

Supposedly the spray deflector was dislodged or broken and prevented extension.

That is really sad. I bet he passengers were pretty scared when the plane hit the ground in front. That aircraft probaly will be out of the loop for awhile. I did not hear about the F100 incident. I was once on a plane with bird strike but we never go to get off the ground.
