UAL 777 Domestic Seat 27H

Thu Sep 11, 2003 8:46 am

Hopefully this won't get me flamed.

I'm going to be going on my honeymoon and we're taking a 777 from SFO to HNL. It is of course the domestic version and we're in 27H and J.

Although seatguru says the seat is fine, in every other configuration there is a blank window right in this area. There's nothing that bothers me more than feeling like I'm sitting right next to a blank wall.

Can someone confirm or deny that 27J is a normal window seat in this configuration?

I've poked around the DB for cabin shots but nothing conclusive.

Thanks in advance. I realize this may seem nit picky but there are no other pairs of seats available on the flight otherwise I'd just change the seat assignments.

I cannot confirm or deny that you do or do not have a window, but let me tell you this. Instead of using seatguru, make a phone call to united and tell them you want a window. Delta F***ed me on a recent flight to LAS where I purchased a window seat, when in fact where I sat I felt like I was in a closet. It drove me nuts the whole flight. It was a good thing I brought my camera on board. I bi***ed to Delta customer Service, and they said that when I purchased my tickets through their website, it would of told me. Well of course it didn't, but live and learn I guess. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that if I were you I would call up, tell them you are on your honeymoon, and that you want to confirm your seating. I'm not sure if the 777 is one fuselage or a couple mated together. Make sure you call!

Thanks for the tip however, even if I call UAL there's not much they're going to be able to do since in the 2-5-2 configuration on this flight there are no more pairs of seats available except in the middle 5 section according to their seat mapper and a call to their customer service.

I appreciate the reply and riding is a closet is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. But, being split up or being squeezed in the middle of the 5 section is a worse prospect.

Go to seatmap.com, punch in your info and see what you get. I just booked myself on a couple 777 flights (DEN-SFO, SFO-DEN) and got the same "run-around" but eventually got them to change my seat to a window. Sometimes it takes several calls until you get someone who tries thier hardest for you.

That's Bullsh**. You pay for a plane ticket. You book a window seat, and then they F**k you by not confirming it when you call them. Another way for airlines to loose passengers. I was so mad when Delta did that to me!

Make darn sure it is a domestic 777. My flights are on a different configured 777 (one of the worldwides arrangements) when I thought it was going to be a domestic.

So you are saying this is your seatmap: http://www.united.com/page/article/0,1360,1761,00.html

I'd either confirm this with UA or do the seatmap.com I mentioned above to confirm.

DIA, Thanks for the tip. I confirmed with both places (UAL seat map and seatmap.com) and UAL that the flight is scheduled on the domestic aircraft.

The person I spoke to was very nice but could not tell me if it's a blocked window or not. Furthermore she told me that the best UAL could do was to put in a request for another seat but that could cause us to be broken up or get a worse seat.

I'm probably just going to have to cross my fingers. My whole point in this is to know to plan for this and pack my carryon accordingly as well as motion sickness pills since I tend to get sick on long flights where I can't see a distant horizon. I.E. Out a window  Wink/being sarcastic

Okay. You sound as if you have the same problem I was having. Sometimes, if they, and their seat assignment department, won't work with you. . .then it usually ends up that the only alternative is to wait until you check in at the UA desk upon departure and have them try there. They usually have several seats at their disposal to "play-around" with.

Have you tried telling UA that you get sick like you discussed above, w/o a window view? Sometimes they will make the change you want if there is a health/sickness matter involved.

Hope that helps. I guess the PTV might come in very handy on your flight.

It appears that you will be a row before the seat without a window. After doing some math calculations (it got a little hairy, with having to figure the differences between Economy Plus and Economy in), but it appears that row 27 is the row right before the row without the window.

Hope that helps.

DIA and DeltaAirlines,

Thanks for the assist. I was about to break out my slide ruler myself and start running numbers.

Re: The PTV, in my expirence I do not count on those things operating. As such I'll be bringing my PowerBook equipped with a DVD drive for my own entertainment. Oh and my 4 batteries I got for it when I was regurarly going SJC-NRT before I got a airline adapter for it.

Again thanks for the help, my mind is a little more at ease.

That Powerbook should help...UA's 777 Domestics don't have PTVs...

Anyway, no prob helping you out.
