US Airways To Reduce F/C Cabin On The 757 Fleet?

Fri Sep 12, 2003 6:53 am

I was talking with a F/A on a flight from CLT-FLL last weekend and he has read a memo that First Class seating will be reduced to just 8 seats on the 757s? Sounds pretty drastic, I could see maybe 12 or 16 seats, but 8?? He says the plan is to use the 757 on higher density, lower yield routes, such as Florida. Sound familiar? Current configuration on the US B757 is F24Y158. The plan is to increase total seating to 203. Interesting. And what about the A321 which is configured for F26Y143? I always thought that was way too big of a First Class section for the type of flying US does. I wonder what the plans are for the 321s? Look for a few changes at US Airways next year, this is only the beginning.

They're repurposing the plane for higher density routes like Florida and Ski Country.

When US Airways was going through its bankruptcy proceeding, I remember that one of the changes proposed was to use the 757 fleet for lower-yeild routes (at that time, it did not mention anything about the change in cabin configuration, but I guess it makes sense) and reassign the A321 aircraft to transcon flights and other higher-yeild markets where a larger aircraft was required. To be honest, I did not think that swapping the A321 and B757s around was such an innovative business plan, but with this change in cabin configuration, something is up. Is US going to try another Metrojet experiment, but this time not brand the LCC seperately?
