If WN Were To Change Their Fleet- What Planes?

Fri Sep 12, 2003 11:56 am

What planes would you want in WN's fleet if they were to completely to change their fleet (even though they are not)

I would like to see:

A318
A321
CRJ
757-300
767-300
MD-80,88,90

IF WN were going to chnage their fleet for whatever reason my best guess is they'd go to an A-318/319 fleet, for maintinence/commonality purposes. I dont see why they would, but its fun to think about!

I could also see the A318/319 fleet for their range and commonality. The MD-80/88 is probably too old and the CRJ would be awesome to see, but the capacity is probably too small. it would give them a chance to offer double the frequencies though! 757-300, and 767-300 are too big, but the 757-200 might be a good option. I imagine it would be pretty hard to phase out almost 400 737s.....

I think if WN had a different fleet, they probably would have ended up with an A319/A320 fleet (the A318 is too small for WN's needs). Gee, sounds likes what B6 ended up with!  Smile

Going with the "head-in-the-clouds" airline experts here on a.net (aka, the only people who truly know how to run an airline but never will) I say that WN should operate a fleet of 747-400's to every city they currently serve! Try that one out for your mental masturbation sessions!

They would probably be using the A319/A320 if they didn't operate the 737. Seems logical.

WN might as well bankrupt if they had to change their fleet around.

I think the best replacement for the 73G's would be......another 73G.
The 319 is the same operating cost.....so it would do little to further their vision....

I would love to see 717s, as they are my favorite narrowbody. I like the 737s too, but the 717 would look interesting in WN's livery. HEY- it's been a long time since WN flew T-Tails. How pretty in the canyon blue colors!
And it would do so much more for the shamu schemes since the tail of a 717 IS actually at the top, rather than being painted on funny.

I would also like to see the 757 in their fleet, as it is so profitable. BUT- too big for Southwests business model, I bet.

maybe TU-244? Big grin

Seriously i don't think that WN had to choose other fleet instead of 737 but i think that with other type of plane WN story would be a lot different but if we imagine a but i think MD-80/MD-90 would do the job.

Just put me on any modern airliner and i will be happy, give me more star alliance miles and i will be a lot more happy.

Well, since this is REALLY hypothetical, I guess I'd like to see a hypothetical airliner, such as a wid(er) body 737 derivative, or a "shorty" 7E7...Jack

for some reason, i doubt that WN would ever fly anything bu 737's. they seem to be a lifelife long boeing customer. the 737's work well for then in terms of capacity. the A320 is my best guess for a decent replacement. the new colours on the 737-700's are nice. wish they came to LGA!  Big grin

Seriously, WN will help develop the replacement for the 737 in about 15 years. As far as today goes, I really cannot see another plane in those colors. It would be too painful. Maybe some CV-990s..........just kidding.

My sources say that Southwest is looking at a fleet replacement of approximately 400 Metroliners. Swearingen is apparently tight-lipped about the plan.

We are hearing the Embraer 175 is being considered, though personally I would like to see us get the 717..................Stay Tuned.

The 737-1000 series, or if Boeing makes a 737 replacement ie 797 (I am assuming 7E7 will get the 787 designation eventually)

Hey Mike, Are You Serious?

Mon Sep 15, 2003 11:15 pm

I can't believe Southwest would even think of adding a new aircraft type to its fleet. It seems to me that there are plenty of cities your company still could start service to before even thinking about adding a new type to the fleet.
