i hate to disagree, guys, but in the german media there have been several articles in the last two months that were drawing a bright picture on the 717 (Boeing even offers to build a stretched -300 if it wins this order) and stating some Lufthansa officials that disliked the A318.
as none of us can´t say for sure and periodic news reports don´t necessarily draw the right conclusions, i highly doubt they´d go for the A318.
there´s several reasons, it´s too much of an airplane for regional operations, it´s too big and too heavy, has too much range and i believe it is not offered with those engines that LH
operates its A319/A320s with. dunno if that is correct or even if that would be a problem since LH
´s A321s have also a totally different engine type.
however, all these other airlines, OS
were major operators of the DC-9s and MD
-80s and they are believed to quite like them and are familiar with this type. the 717 isn´t much different but provides excellent operational costs on short hops.
but still, i do agree that somehow, the 717 seems to be quite a strange candidate, given the current fleets of those airlines.
and i either wouldn´t disregard the possibilities of those lovely Embraer 170s and 190s being eventually given the nod. although i have repeatedly stated on this board that Embraer is not favorized by Lufthansa, which was true, for some reasons they´re up in the running again.
it´s probably because they´re the only manufacturer offering "one" product from 70 to about 110 seats, which is not the case with Airbus, Boeing and Bombardier.
If only pure sweetness was offered, why's this bitter taste left in my mouth.
