Can't View Your E-reservation If Not A FF

Mon Sep 15, 2003 10:11 am

Hi all

i am not starting this post to bash certain airlines as some would assume and start making negative comments, however my delimma is that

why is it that certain airlines such as delta and United would not let you view your electronic tickets online or able to make seats assignments online unless you were a FF for the same airline?

Continental for example, regardless if you were a FF member will allow you to view your reservation online, change seat assignment, and check in online as long as you have a confirmation number and hold an electronic ticket. but Delta, United and couple of other airlines will not allow you to even view your reservation unless you are a FF of them.

I have a FF with Emirates, and i have oer 30K miles, Emirate count UAL mileage as well as DL and CO, so it would be more logical if i placed my EK FF on the reservation rather than just open a new FF with the airline i am flying with just to be able to view it online.

probably a promotional reason. you are talking about loyalty to a certain FF and not willing to change it thats what the airlines in my opnion try to do

The reason is they want you to join *their* FF program. That way, they can collect all kinds of information about you and your travel habits and sell that information to interested parties.

Additionally, if the choice is between, say, USAir at $305 and UAL at $315, or even if they're the same price, they hope that if you have a FF program with UAL you'll buy the UAL ticket.

I know that I fly FL whenever I can because I have my FF with them. When I can't fly them, I talk my dad into buying the ticket with his USAir mileage card, so he gets some FF benefit from my travel. Did that with my NW/CO BDL-SEA flight last month.
