List Of Preserved Airliners At Museums, Etc.

Mon Sep 15, 2003 11:15 pm

I was wondering if the users of this site could help compile a list of nicely preserved airliners that can visited at museums worldwide. I guess what I have in mind is a list of airliners that one can no longer see operating regularly but that are preserved in decent condition (not sitting at a desert graveyard) in their classic liveries. Please describe, if possible, the condition of the aircraft and include a photo from the database. For example, not far from where I live, the New England Air Museum at Hartford Bradley International Airport in Connecticut, has an Airborne Express Caravelle, N902MW. It's stored outside so the weather is taking its toll on the aircraft. Still, I think it's one of the only Caravelles in North America.

Lindy,

While I don't have the pics to post, you'll find Caravelles at the following airfields:

CMH (Airborne colors)
CVG (Airborne colors)
VNY (red/blue stripe colors last I saw)
TUS (actually at Pima Museum in Aero Service white/blue cls)
and if it's still intact, an all silver one at TUS as well

There may be others, but that's what I can add.

Theres still a Convair 880 at Graceland isn't there?

There are a couple of Convair props at The Mid Atlantic Air Museum in Reading PA.

And, a DC-8 in an LA museum? Can someone confirm that?

Swiss National Transportation Museum in Lucerne has DC-3 and Convair CV-990 in Swissair colors together with some smaller planes.

The DC-8 in LA is located at the Museum of Science and Industry and is painted in United colors. Looks to be in fairly good condition but it is stored outdoors.
