JetBlue's Embraers?

Tue Sep 16, 2003 1:32 am

I flew out of JFK last night and noticed some of JetBlue's Embraers on the ramp (couldn't tell if they were 175s or 190s). Are these in service yet?

I saw them too. They were parked next to an Air France A380.

No, they aren't in service yet.

I thought this aircraft was still in the certification process. jetBlue is the launch customer for the EMB-190, and is not scheduled to begin taking deliveries until 2005.

The Embraer new generation jets (170, 175, and 190) are not in service yet. As far as I know, 170 is in advanced certification tests, the 175 is in early certification tests, and the 190 has not flown yet.

JetBlue bought the EMB190. I read here a few weeks ago that Embraer was flying the 170 to some of JetBlue's bases so the employees could get a look at the new type of aircraft that they will be getting. I don't know if they were going to paint a 170 on JetBlue's colors for this, but if you saw "some" JetBlue planes at JFK, they were probably the Airbuses.

The Embraer 190, the aircraft JetBlue has on order, hasn't even flown yet. It's first flight is scheduled for the beginning of 2004 with delivery to JetBlue in 2005. As I understand it, JetBlue didn't order any Embraer 170s (the aircraft you saw).

Only JetBlue aircraft at JFK would be the buses. If you saw an EMB at T5, it was the 170 in "house" livery which was presented to JetBlue for a look-see.
