Tue Sep 16, 2003 4:08 pm

Has anyone seen pictures of the new 777-200 economy and business seats for Thai??

I think they are supposed to be installed pretty soon...

Thanks!

Thai Airways International - a member of Star Alliance - is installing B/E Aerospace "MINI-POD" business class seats.

These are commonly known as Japan Airline System Corporation's "Shell Flat" seat if I'm correct.
Anyone can fly, only the best Soar.

Are they keeping the same number of seats per row in business class? They have to be the narrowest c-class seats I have tried until now....

In the new 777 business class, the seating is 2-2-2. Yes, a generous 2-2-2 arrangement like SQ spacebed.

No pics yet. But if Singapore_Air's information is correct, you can see the seats from Japan Airlines web site http://www.jal.co.jp/en/inflight/inter/executive/c_seat/

It makes little sense to fit these flat bed seats on Thai B777-200s.
These 777s are not ER, right? That means they have limited range and are only used on regional routes.
SQ's regional 777s have 2-3-2 configuration in business class, and are not flat bed.

StarG: I agree with you. I don't know why THAI fitted such a good seat on the 772 which are non-ER.

On a positive thinking, maybe THAI plans to standardize on this seat and will fit all other aircrafts with the same kind of seat.

Any idea what the schedule is for fitting these seats. I will be flying TG on a 772 in December...any chance?

Yes, it's the JAL's flat bed.

I think TG wants to use those 772 for Japan routes. BKK-NRT, BKK-KIX etc. Because those are one of the most profitable routes for TG. So I think TG wants to make it nice.

I remember that TG put the 772 for Melbourne route (You can check the pic og TG 772 at MEL). So they may use 772s to Australia too.
Let's just blame it on yields.

This is from the Thai website - press release in August:

"The redesign of THAI?s Business and Economy Class seats on its Boeing 777-200 aircraft at a total of 8 aircraft of this type will be based on a new design created for increased passenger comfort. The aircraft seat arrangement for Business Class will be 2-2-2, enabling seat recline at 165 degree. Economy Class aircraft seat arrangement will be 3-3-3 replacing the 3-4-3 seat arrangement, making travel on this aircraft type more comfortable and spacious for passengers.

The airline has begun to refurbish the seats on its Boeing 777-200 aircraft, with completion expected within 12-15 months."

Doesn't say anything about the rest of the fleet, even though the 747-300's and older 400's could use some new seats....

Any idea when Thai will receive the UAL 747's??

Nethkt: Good point. The service to Japan could use improvement. Also, 772 can replace MD-11 on the MEL and BNE services. That would be a huge improvement.

I just checked with a friend regarding 747-400 seat improvement. THAI has jus started the procurement process so it's going to take a while longer.
