There has already been one visible for a few months now in EK colors - parked at TLS with no engines.

This might be another?

When EK start flying them to LGW i'll have to head down there for a few,by then NW should have 333's there so so it could be quite a productive trip or 2.

Why are they flying them to LGW, woudn't they get more passangers on the LHR route?

Practice... and the 345s are configured in a low density arrangement.

Which other routes will EK use the 345s? (sorry if this question has been discussed before but it just springs to mind when reading this post)

LHR is thrice-daily 773 so the 345 would be a downgrade really in capacity.
Mozart, they will be mainly on the US routes .

I can't wait to see more A340s at LGW (my local), especially an A340-500!!! The only scheduled 340 service is one by virgin (A343).

EK said they are going to use the A345 on the DXB-JFK route (daily) and the DXB-SFO route (6x weekly). I wonder what the next US routes will be.

EKs A 345s will also be used for DXB-SYD-AKL-SYD-DXB flights which will not stopover in SIN. After JFK and SFO are introduced and running smoothly, YYZ and ORD are next in line for nonstop A 345 flights from DXB!

thanks for the info info Behramjee. I would think that IAH would have to be on EK`s list, with the oil and all.

DXB-SFO

Interesting...is there a large Middle Eastern population there? Or might Emirates be looking for further codesharing opportunities with its mileage partner United?!

One would think that if EK wanted better connections with United that they'd choose to serve JFK and ORD.

I know ORD and IAD are on the list - but they took a back seat to SFO.

I guess SFO would provide extensive West Coast connections... but I'd think ORD, hell DEN would provide better domestic connections.

the flight DXB-SFO is nonstop. There is a large Middle Eastern population in the Bay Area, and northern California for that matter. Fremont, a suburb in the East Bay is sometimes referred to as "Little Kabul". There is also a lot of Assyrian people in NorCal too.

There is a very large ex-patriate Pakistani population in the San Francisco Bay Area. Small wonder why trying to find Arabic-native speakers is somewhat harder to come by than I expected here in the Bay Area (there are lots of Urdu-speaking Pakistanis, though). Given that EK flies a lot of flights between DXB and Pakistan, maybe EK wants to tap into this market at the expense of SQ?

By the way, anytime there is the Cricket World Cup the local Pakistani and Indian populations come out in big numbers to support their teams.  Smile

Does anyone have final word of the EK's final passenger configuration for the A345?

Steve - its been discussed a few times, but I can't offer a guarantee that I remember right.

I want to say 245 seats - about on par with a comfortable config for a 777-200ish size airplane.

Wouldn't DTW be a good open for non-stop US/UAE routes? Being it has a large, if not largest, Arab-American population?

Syncmaster,

I think DXB-DTW could be reserved for A380-800 flights, especially since DTW's new Midfield terminal can easily be adapted to accommodate the 80 x 80 meter parking space needed for the plane. I think the A388--if if lives up to its 8,000 nautical mile range capability--could fly DXB to DTW non-stop on a full or nearly-full load year-round.

Actually I think that Detroit would be low on their wish list. Emirates does not strike me as a carrier seeking to carry "ethnic" traffic who typically purchase low yield tickets from consolidators. From what I read here and elsewhere, they are after larger markets and deeper pockets.

Hmmm, excited to hear that the 345 will be on the US routes, BUT from what I read in other posts, those flights may not happen because of US regulatory "hesitations". That's why I was asking...

Wonder why MAN is double daily then? Big grin

Donder 10,

Short-answer: economies of density. DTW is considerably further away.

Donder 10,

Second answer. Gulf States import white collar workers in droves from the UK, many from Manchester, Leeds, etc.
