The United States Grand Prix is less than a week away - the first practice starts next Friday. Supposedly, all the cargo flights with tons of equipment from the 10 F1 teams (cars, tires, components, spares, etc.) arrive between Saturday and Sunday.
I just read an article about the logistics in F1. It said that 4 747s and 2 MD-11s will fly from London (for UK based teams) and Munich (for teams based in the rest of Europe) to IND. The only exception here is Ferrari, the article said they will coordinate the transportation of their equipment by themselves.
So, if anyone here is from Indianapolis, expect some interesting cargo flights this weekend. I bet the MD-11s mentioned are FedEx aircraft, but I'm not sure about the 747s. Maybe Atlas Air, Cargolux?
I'll keep an eye on flytecomm.com and flightarrivals.com and I'll keep you informed.
Can't wait for next weekend, this will be the first F1 race I'll attend. I'll be flying MEX-ORD on the 25th, on a Mexicana 757. I'll drive to Indy the day after that.
