There are actually two B terminals in DTW
, the old Smith Terminal, and the Midfield Terminal.
There is an article in the Detroit Free Press about LH
moving in. I don't have time to bring it up. I did my senior project on DTW
so I have the information somewhere. I think it was because LH
wanted better facitlities and negoiated with NW
But if I recall correctly this was the plan:
Open new World Gateway, move NW
down there. Open new runway.
Destroy old NW
facitlities execpt for Marriott Hotel. Build new domestic terminal for all other airlines and connect with the Marriot and Big Blue (parking garage). It was suppose to be about 29-gates made in the same linear design as the World Gateway.
Once that opens, move all domestic ops, AA
, Spirit, etc, to new domestic gateway. Tear down Smith.
Berry remains open for charter operations during this time.
