MEA Flying To SYD?!

Sun Sep 21, 2003 2:46 am

Just today I was watching BEY's scheduled flights on TV,when I saw a flight for MEA arriving from Sydney Via Kuala Lumpur;at first I thought they have mistaken it with MH flights, but later I checked SYD's website & found out that indeed there is an MEA flight.
Another thing, two days ago I was at the airport & saw an ad at the MEA sales office promoting flights to Hong Kong Via DXB with Cathay pacific?Any thoughts of parternship between the two airlines?

SYD-BEY is a codeshare on MH. When i was at SYD a few weeks ago I was suprised to see it on the monitors. However, when I saw the gatenumber I ralised it was a codeshare.

MEA flew to Sydney throughout the 90s, initially using A310s via Dubai, Singapore and Darwin. They later used their 747s and dropped the Dubai and Darwin stops.

I thought they dropped the route in favour of a codeshare with Malaysia, who fly a 777 to Beirut every day nonstop from KL. This mystery flight spotted on the monitors by MEA310 is more likely to be the MH codeshare, I don't think MEA have revived the route with their own metal. Hopefully they will one day, their gorgeous white livery with the enormous cedar on the tail is much missed at Kingsford Smith.
fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

Acutally MH operates non stop & via Cairo flights to Beirut;I had the thought that it might be a codeshare, but after checking SYD's website I had some doubts & decided to discuss it with you guys.
Thanks for the info.

MEA would now with its upscale reputation do well if it restarts SYD flights via either KUL or SYD. Preferably via KUL due to less competition there compared to SIN.

An A332 would be perfect for such a route! But they need to fly to SYD at least 4-5 times a week as EK flies dbl daily, GF is 6 times a week and then you have MH-SQ-CX-TG etc etc all competing for MEA's transit pax traffic for North Africa and Europe especially!

MH operates twice weekly flights from Beirut to Kuala Lumpur via Dubai, with onward connections to Sydney, Melbourne and Perth (same goes for the return sector). MEA used to operate their Sydney flights via Singapore, but changed to Kuala Lumpur before suspending its SIN, KUL and SYD altogether.
