Star Alliance Colours- World Domination!

Tue Sep 23, 2003 3:39 am

My idea of my worst nightmare. All star alliance planes going into that one colour scheme. They seem to be becoming incresingly popular!!! What are other peoples views on this subject???

My idea of my worst nightmare. All star alliance planes going into that one colour scheme.

Its a very very communist thought !!

Anyway jokes aside, I do not think that they are going to standardize on livery. They might have an aircraft or two in their fleet painted in that rather unimaginative scheme but they would surely stop short of painting all their planes in a single color scheme and lose their individual identities.

I am reminded about the definition of airline alliances which goes something like "Its a set of airlines who hate another set of airlines more than they hate each other". This being the ultimate truth, I do not see individual carriers giving up their individual identities no matter how compelling the alliance circumstances are to have one common color scheme.

The new Star Alliance scheme definitely adds conformity to the "fleet", but at the same time, I liked the other schemes too.

The first scheme, with the founding airlines, was great. I loved seeing A340s and B767s painted in the multi-airline schemes. It would be cool to see this scheme adapted with all the airlines in Star today, though it would be pretty messy to squeeze all the liveries together, so I can understand why they don't.

Then, the secondary scheme was really cool too, with each airline having a block down the fuselage of the plane. This scheme at least added some color to the planes. It's too bad that they couldn't stay with this scheme.

This most recent scheme is somewhat drab. However, it does give the Star Alliance a professional-looking appearance, which says something good about the alliance.

It's a flying billboard for the alliance. No airlines are moving to the Star colours.

So who hasn't got one?

All Nippon Airways
Austrian (with new corporate scheme)
Tyrolean / Austraian Arrows (but I suppose is part of Austrian Airlines Group)
Lauda (ditto)
Singapore Airlines (problems with mingling it seems)
United Airlines?
Air New Zealand (hopefully not a sign of things to come)
US Airways (new)
LOT (not even in Star Alliance yet but they have stickers on the front on some)
Mexicana
SAS
VARIG (money problems)
Anyone can fly, only the best Soar.

UA have a 763 in the original scheme.

MX have a 757 in the 2nd scheme.

SK used to have a 763 in the original scheme.

Generally, it has been one or two aircraft in each fleet that has been painted.

The problem is that Star is now on its third "livery" so there is not much consistency among the members with examples still flying in all 3 versions.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.
