I saw the aircraft sitting next to the runway today, just some minutes after the incident. The airport was closed immediately, but was reopened again shortly afterwards so that not too many diversions were necessary. It had arrived on runway 06 and came to a halt north of the runway, opposite of the tower. I would estimate that this is approximately half of the runway length?
From my position it looked as if the aircraft was sitting quite close to the runway, but when I saw the photos on the website of the "Luxembourger Wort" (www.wort.lu) today, I was amazed to see that it even went through the airport fence! Thank god that nobody was hurt...
Around 1500h local they moved the aircraft and towed it into Luxairs hangar. Even though it looked at first as if it was a belly landing, LX
-LGZ is still on its wheels. Lets hope there's no major structural damage.
As a result of the incident, the 12:05h flight to Copenhagen was subsequently cancelled.
