Great Lakes At Wichita

Thu Sep 25, 2003 9:47 am

As of November 1, Great Lakes will take over from Mesa those services on behalf of Frontier to Wichita.

Will Great Lakes operate them on their own as a code share with Frontier, or will they function as a sort of Junior Jet Express - except Great Lakes doesn't have jets.

Whatever, I think it's a very sensible move. Wichita could not have supported the CR7, and this is far better than F9 losing the city.

cheers

Most of those Mesa CRJ's to ICT went out half full from what I have witnessed. Having Great Lakes in there will make it a viable market for Frontier. Good business decision, even though it may not be a popular one for ICT passengers. F9 gave it a go in Wichita...just could never really make it work.

hope to see the emb vs the 1900d....i know zk has some EMBs around but it would fit good in ict....they(f9) must think that there is some biz in ict or they would have pulled out all together

The Fair Fares contract that both F9 and FL to serve Wichita for two years. Otherwise, they would not be eligible for subsidies. I think F9 only has a few more months to go. I think they'll discontinue ICT service once subsidies and the contract run out.

More people will go to UA anyway because they will not like flying on turboprops.

F9 out of ICT??? No big loss. Fares were only 20% cheaper due to F9's arrival. Air Tran had a much larger impact on ICT.

One more thing, F9 never did any obvious advertisement here. Other than articles on the TV news or Wichita Eagle about low fares out of Wichita, I don't too many people know about F9's service here.

Allegiant Air and Air Tran advertise all the time and they are talked about all the time.

Will pax be able to buy an F9 ticket from ICT-DEN or DEN-ICT? I seem to recall that the agreement is that it's only an F9 ticket if there's a connection on an F9-operated flight. Is this still the case?

Flashmeister:

I don't know the answer to that and I wish I did.

Since Frontier has the contract with ICT, I assume that you must be able to buy the ticket with Frontier.

But you're quite right about the code share arrangement between Frontier and Great Lakes.

However, as the Wichita contract (via Frontier) is obviously a good deal for Great lakes, perhaps the contract has been amended.

When the end of the Mesa/Frontier contract was announced, I posted on another board that I thought Great Lakes might figure in the scheme of the future.

I wonder how much more there might be in the works - if anything - for Great Lakes, from Frontier.

cheers
