Boeing 727 On The Road?

Thu Sep 25, 2003 4:28 pm

I have just heard a rumour that a Boeing 727-276, G-BNNI is being trucked from UK to Denmark, where it be placed somewhere as a restaurant! Are there any reader who can confirm this?

2 pictures of the plane in question:

I saw this aircraft yesterday, and had one of those "Sh*t, I wish I had my camera with me" moments. I was at Harwich Port yesterday & as I pulled into the car park I saw this 727 sitting on a flat bed truck just a few feet away. On top of that, I then watched them amazingly manoeuvre it around the port and then onto the ferry for it's next trip to Denmark.

This aircraft became quite a news story in Essex the day before, when it caused a 12 mile traffic Jam as it got stuck going through the contra-flow system caused by road works on the A12.

P.S. TZ Aviation, that is an excellent photo by the way.

Ned.

Thanks Ned  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I have another in the queue, which I hope will make it onto the site soon - that one gives an impression of the sheer scale of the vehicle used to transport the aircraft.

The wings and tailfin were transported on two seperate trucks (three trucks in total). The wings went a different route (M25/M11) because the A12 was not wide enough - that had the effect of causing conjestion on ALL major routes through Essex (oops!). Once it gets to Skanderborg, it will be displayed outside the factory of a company which prints the "money off" coupons found in daily newspapers. The factory is right next to the E45 motorway.

I'd like a window seat up front please Laugh out loud

That's what I would say if it was a restaurant.

Thank you all for the info and the splendid picture. I will go to Skanderborg soon to see how it looks in front of the motorway. We do not have any aircraft on that kind of display in Denmark.

Has just received info from a friend who passed by on road E45. The Boeing 727 is under assembly at Exit 51 "Stilling" just south of Aarhus. I think I will go down there on Monday.

A 727-276. From this info, I'd say this particular aircraft was originally built for Australian Airlines. If so, when did Australian retire/sold it? Regards.

FlagshipAZ: Australian Airlines sold it to Aeron Aviation Corporation December 8 1986 and leased it to Dan Air London as G-BNNI. Was later sub-leased to Sun Country.
Yesterday I was in Stilling between Aarhus and Skanderborg where it is being assembled. Have just uploaded 2 pictures. Hope they will make it through to the data base soon!
