USAirways Hatred Rekindled

Thu Sep 25, 2003 9:34 pm

Well, I've been lucky enough to have the priviledge of avoiding USAirways for the last 3 years. However they significantly undercut Delta for Thanksgiving and Xmas out of ATL to BDL. Does anybody else have problems with their website? They are the only airline I know of that does not display your upcoming itineraries when you log into the frequent flyer profile. Further I called the 800 number, and they can't even tell me when my flights are? I suppose it is hard to manage finances and planning for an airline, when they cannot even tell you when your flight is

Never had any problems with the site, but then I'm not much of a power-user.... But, seems pretty user-friendly when looking up flights/fares, etc..
Finally made it to an airline mecca!

I once got on a USAir 737 that smelled like a urinal. Says a lot for the company. Some company's no matter how hard they try can never change.

Haveric,
That's all been tried. It's whole database management is the problem. Too complex to go into here. Furthermore, $100 to change a flight. They should look at what the other majors are charging

Micstatic, it seems like you're out to hate US Airways no matter what they do. And in regards to "what the other majors are charging", I can tell you that a $100 change fee is pretty run of the mill. That's a pretty standard change fee.

I for one have only flown US Airways once, but had a GREAT experience with them. Would fly them again in a heartbeat if I got a chance.

Honestly, I fly on US Airways all the time TPA-CLT-CHS and back, and have nothing but good experiences with them  Smile

I flew them 5 round trips TPA-CLT-CAE and TPA-CLT-CHS
just during the month of July alone. Everything was ontime, planes were all clean (and smelled fresh  Big grin )
crew was pleasant. A couple time from CLT-TPA I flew on the A-320 Shuttle. Very nice, roomy and comfortable.

Hope you have a better experience with them in the future!
I believe I can fly.....

I can't say that I agree with the hatred...

usairways.com is pretty easy to navigate, and i've been able to find my previous reservations as well using the "existing reservations" feature. I'm a big fan of their flexible search option allowing you to put in city pairs and then choosing the fare classes, dates, and then schedules. The only thing that I dislike about their website is that you cannot enter more than 4 segments when pricing an itinerary.

I've never had any problems with their flights themselves. It's always been a good experience flying with them; so much that I'm about to get preferred status solely on leisure flights as of next weekend.

Personally, I have had nothing but good service on my USAirways flights. Living in Philadelphia, I fly either Delta or USAirways (I nonrev on DL) and find that both airlines have great domestic service. I've never had a problem with service on either carrier that couldn't be expected (nobody is perfect). Now if only Delta would stop sending those MD-88s up here...those US A-320s are so much nicer!

Hatred might be a strong word. But I'll tell you it wouldn't take me 2 hours to find out my flight if I was dealing with Delta, NW, or CO. USAirways has come along way, but there is no way that I can put there reservations system on par with the other majors.

I've had my problems with USAir, but nothing that can't be forgiven. I must agree however, that the USAir website is brutal. It needs to be changed soon.

Myself, along with many other ex-PSA afficionados and employees, avoid flying USAirways like the plague. Haven't flown them, don't intend to. And in no way has it affected my travel.

US Airways' coach-class intercontinental service pales in comparison to that of United. At least when one flies those ex-Piedmont 762s.

I regularly fly US Airways, and I never have had a problem with them. The only small issue was one time flying from MCO to PHL on business (coach class though), I was supposed to take a 9:00 (or so) flight, cleared standby on a 6:00 flight (before they charged for standby), and we got on the plane, and then the 6:00 flight was cancelled (mechanical, so this was a Rule 240 situation)...they gave us meal vouchers, a calling card to call everybody, and...a seat on that later flight...in 4C as opposed to 22C where I was on the earlier flight...not bad, huh?

Hey MICSTATIC, why are you flying US Air it sounds like they can't do anything that will make you happy. Oh ya I know we charge a $100.00 Change fee, so you better not change your $99.00 r/t tkt. I like US Air I fly them when I'm on the East Coast never had any major problems with them.

I have always had problem observing their work rules on the ramp at PVD. If you saw what I was looking at, you wouldn't be surprised that they were in bankruptcy to "fix" these. As far as flying on them, I haven't flown on them for 5 years since they shoved me on that deathtrap DC-9 when the 737 broke down.

US has always been pretty good for me, and routing through CLT I have encountered among the friendliest airline employees anywhere. Their website did suck, but it looks like they at least fixed the problems with using the "back" button on a browser.

US Airways has treated me well in the recent past, and I am now starting to make US my preferred airline. Whatever the cabin I am flying in, I have been treated with respect and very attentive service. Their prices are pretty good, and their FF program is pretty good, especially with the segments still being around (Delta got rid of that, unfortunately).

My only experiance with USAir involved being 18 hours late.....

I don't hate 'em, though, as that was about 4 years ago. Also, it wasn't really their fault.

urthermore, $100 to change a flight.

Standard on all majors.

And as to not being able to find reservations, I think that may just be your internet savvy. I can find my US reservations with just a few clicks, and even after they redesigned their website I had no problem finding it instantly.

I will admit that DL has the best website of any airline anywhere, and that its always an absolute pleasure to use, but that doesn't make US's evil or hard to use.

This is where the freedom of choice comes in. If you don't like USAirways, then cough up the dough and fly on someone else. That's why we live in America- so that we can do what we want, rather than choose Air Canada or... Air Canada.

Incidently, I like the airline. I flew them DFW-PHL-FCO-PHL-DFW and thought they were very good overall.

This may seem brutally honest, but what do I do when I want to see what my flight number is for an upcoming itinerary? Well- here comes the shocker- I look at my ticket. WHOODA THUNK?????

And in today's modern society, all I have to do is look at my E-ticket... whoa.

People people people.. Didn't you hear.. They officially changed the name of the airline from US Airways to a more accurate USeless Airways.. The new livery should start appearing on the planes soon. Ever just think they try to piss off their customers?

Micstatic,

There's nothing wrong with their res system. Airlines don't have their own unique reservation system. SABRE is used by many worldwide airlines including US, I believe. If not SABRE, rest assured that many other airlines are using the same system without problems.

US Airways has always exceeded my expectations in regards to service, cleanliness of aircraft, comfort, etc. Besides the numerous flights between PVD and MSY on US....usually going through CLT or BWI on Metrojet (which I thought had a good product incidentally)...I had the chance to fly them transcon from PVD to LAX, via PIT. PIT to LAX was a 767-200ER that just arrived from Paris. Every minute of the 4h50m flight was enjoyable. Great service, edible meals, and the flight happned to have the best audio program I've ever listened to an an aircraft: R.E.M's greatest hits.

US, to me, has a pretty consistent product, and I wouldn't hesitate to fly them again.

My brother recently flew US Airways and US Airways Express DTW-PHL-LGA-PIT-DTW and he said the trip overall was alright (little delayed for LGA ATC), nice agents and cabin crew. He enjoyed the A321 LGA-PIT, and he's not an airplane person. However, I booked him on a NW B752 a week later to compare.  Big grin He liked both. He's not a fan of the CRJ and EMB.

Northwestair,

Some people expect more than just a simple ride from A to B. With the amount that I fly, I really appreciate the perks provided by Delta and others. And to add, my problem with their internet site is smaller than my problem with their telephone customer service. As I stated before, the fact that it took them longer than an hour to tell me a flight time is pretty out of line.

I've had decent experiences on them...though it was back in the late 80's early 90's. I found their staff to be rather rude...and back when I flew, the Philly airport was a pit!

I don't like them for what they did to PSA and Piedmont, but I would fly on them, since many of those employees are still working at US.
Catch a ride on a smile!

Its more than just expecting more than a ride from point A to point B.. You do not hear people on Southwest bitching there was no meal. It is about giving what your customer expects. If you have them expecting the world they better get it. If they go in expecting a bag with 4 pretzels in it and half a can of coke and that is all they get its no problem. Also not treating your customers like they are a burden goes a long way.. If you are nice to them they may fly with you again. In my experience almost every time I fly the prices of the tickets are within just a few dollars of each other so if I have a good experience with an airline I will take that one over the airline that I think sucks even when it costs a few dollars more. That is something the business world calls loyalty, and to survive an airline needs loyal customers, i do not hear of too many loyal USeless Airways customers

on a side note it sucks the way they took a good airline and killed it while assimilating their great ticket agents and cust service people into USeless Airways drones of grouchiness.. Long live Piedmont
