Jetsgo To Offer Fares As Low As $1

Fri Sep 26, 2003 10:16 am

MONTREAL (CP) - Discount airline Jetsgo is again offering $1 fares on some of its flights in a continuing price war with Air Canada.

Jetsgo announced Thursday that, starting this weekend, the Montreal-based company will offer "Loonie Sundays" that allow visitors to the airline's website 24 hours to reserve "hundreds of seats for $1 and thousands of other discounted fares across its network." A similar program was used by Jetsgo in June. It lasted a week longer than planned as Air Canada's cut by 50 per cent fares booked the same month on its Tango no-frills service.

The airline didn't say Thursday which routes would be available for $1 on Sunday, but in a "sneak preview" of some Sunday fares said one-way flights between Toronto and Calgary would go for $25.80, between Halifax and Toronto $20.89 and between Montreal and Edmonton $45.53.

The prices become significantly higher when taxes, fuel surcharges, security fees and other fees are added. For example, a Toronto-to-Ottawa return flight booked in June at a fare of $20 ended up costing more than $145 after extra charges were included.

Jetsgo's Loonie Sundays sale begins at 12 a.m. MT this Sunday and ends at 11:59 p.m. MT.

Based in Montreal with 500 employees, Jetsgo offers discount air service to Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Charlottetown, Halifax, Sydney, N.S., and St. John's, Nfld.

Service in the United States is to Newark, N.J., Las Vegas and Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, St. Petersburg and Fort Myers in Florida.

I know we keep going on and on about the taxes, but wouldn't it be great if Jetsgo could charge $50 on seat sales and it would cost the consumer at most $75 after all was said and done?

Eventhough I don't have 2 cents to rub together, it may be worth going somewhere for a day trip one of these days on one of these loonie deals!  Smile

Thanks for posting that, I really wasn't aware of it.

I know that in june when they had their loonie deal, you had to also buy a return ticket and that ticket was about $300 between YEG and YYZ

I had the chance to fly Jetsgo last year on Father's Day, when they offered free flights to any male 22 years and older, but you had to pay the taxes. I ended up going to YWG and back on the same day, same aircraft, and it cost me a total of $105
