Aloha Starting HNL-OAK With 737 NG's!

Thu Dec 30, 1999 5:39 am

Aloha is going to fly from HNL and Maui to Oakland, CA, nonstop with B737-700's! Who would want to sit in the small cabin of a 737 for a 5+/- hour flight? What is the range limit on the 737-700? What about ETOPS certification? Any info welcome!

Pretty exciting stuff (they announced it a few months ago).

Range is around 3,000 miles (look on www.boeing.com/commercial)

I wouldn't mind sitting in that cabin--it's the same as the 757.

That's true; doesn't United operate 757 from LAX to Maui? The 757 is a bit bigger, though.

The 757 is bigger, the 747 is a lot bigger. However, the amount of personal space you have in your seat is very, very similar on the 737/747/747/A320 or most types you care to mention.

I don't think there will be a noticeable difference in comfort levels between types. Maybe Aloha will make more effort to attract people onto such a long 737 flight from a secondary airport!

I regularly fly on United's A319s and A320s non-stop across the continental United States. Depending on headwinds that flight can be 4 to 6 hours (6 1/2 hours was my longest cross country flight). So I don't see any drawbacks. I'd gladly sit on a similar plane like the 737NG if it were headed for Hawaii! Smaller jets with longer range offer more choices at more airports and more opportunity for the flying public. Aloha, Aloha!

Personal Space

Fri Dec 31, 1999 10:34 am

There is something about riding on a large aircraft that makes it seem like you have more space. I know when I deplane from Cathay's 747's at YVR and get on Air BC's BAe-146's to SEA, I feel alot more cramped!
